has anyone ever tried these as a chewable treat for their dogs? One of my suppliers just got them in and I bought a couple of boxes to try in the shop. I brought two home for my boys and my poodle is rather pleased but the Border Terrer a bit unimpressed. I actually think it's a bit overwhelming for him? It's about 8 inches across and so hard that I think he's intimidated by it. I once brought home a rawhide Dinosaur bone and he woudn't touch it, but the same product but only much smaller and he's delighted.

Supposed to be good for them and last a long time, don't splinter, not processed...

anyone have any thoughts on these?
 
I've got some at home to mount for the wall and Archie goes nuts when he sniffs them so I'd suggest that some dogs LOVE them! :D
 
LOL, hmmm, my customer that bought some yesterday should be in for a surprise then. If hers do take a liking to them she'll have to move (to higher ground) her new lamp made from antler that she just bought!

THey do come in smaller pieces but never thought he'd be put off by the size - so will try a smaller one next time. The poodle thinks it's his birthday cos he's got TWO! LOL

Hilarious - I would not be impressed if my dog ate my antler lamp (not that I have one!)

Once they're mounted on the wall I have visions of coming home and him being hanging off them 5ft above the ground :eek::rolleyes:
 
I've got loads of antlers kicking around the place (other than the mounted ones) there are a couple of singles just lying here next to me on the coffee table and countless ones in the shed and around the place!

But, none of my dogs have ever taken any notice of them - they much prefer to chew on shoes, chargers, the remote, pens, stolen logs from the log basket but have never tried to chew on an antler!

Just out of curiousity - all mine are red deer antlers, what are the ones you have bought for your dogs?
 
I bought a small antler for my lurcher at great expense - over £5! - and she has given it little or no attention. Typical. Anyone want to make me an offer on it ;)

That's just it - I think she's envisioning these two climbing up on to wherever the lamp is and having a good go - and it's two BICHON! :P

The antlers I got in are from Scottish Highland deer - they're pretty expensive (retail at £4 for a small one, £9 for a larger one). But they're so hard that they could be kicking around here for years.
 
Our labrador picks up fallow antlers on her walks and brings them home. She might chew it a bit if she hasn't got a bone on the go but isn't that interested.
The lurcher steals and buries them, but shes a kleptomaniac, it doesn't mean shes really interested.
 
I've tried deer and moose antlers with mine and they love them. I will say the first time we gave them though it wasn't until the beagles realised that they had marrow in that they started to chew on them too. Maybe give the one your poodle has chewed to your BT which is what happened to ours - the mutt put in the early work to expose the marrow more and the beagles took over after a while.

They do last forever too which also means in my house there is no fighting over them which there can be with treats that don't.

LOL, I know what you mean - when my old girls teeth started to fail, the younger boys would do the starter work and then she would finish the nice bits. This was usually with rawhides and she needed it fairly soggy before she could or would cope. I know it's not Chester's teeth bothereing him, he just doesn't see why he should chew what feels like stone! And yet the sterilised filled (with softer filling) marrow bones which are bigger in diameter are much more appealing -- he'll chew the edges of those long after he's sooked the filling out.

My house currently looks like what I'd imagine a knackers yard might- bones scattered all over the place. I'm constantly stubbing my toes on them!
 
My friend got the for his ridgebacks and they love them (although one of them always wants the antler that the other one has....MEN), 3 weeks in and they've barely made a dent in them, yes they were expensive but they're lasting.
Gave one to my friends dog, no idea where it is think he's taken it and buried it somewhere, next time I'll just give him a £10 to bury!!!!

LOL, you know the funny thing is that I gave poodle and bt theirs at the same time; poodle went poncing with it pleased as poodle punch. BT grabbed it and went woo hoo - gnaw gnaw, eh....think I'll take this one outside (why I dunno, he's NEVER tried to take chews or toys out with him before) but was hampered, LOL, by the fact he coudlnt' get it out the cat flap! LOLOLOL
 
When my pet red stag Moo used to shed his antlers, before we had him gelded!!, the dogs did wander around with them for a good bit but always lost interest in them pretty quickly, give them hoof trimmings from the horses on the other hand and they looove those!!!:D
My yard looks like an knackeres yard too - bones everywhere, one of mine worked out if he waited for me to drive the tractor he'd put them in my path so the tractor would crush them and he could get the bits he couldn't reach albeit rather smushed!!!!:D
