Until we bought our new horse I'd never heard of Deer Keds so have no knowledge of then really, other than they have a horrible bite.

Has anyone had any experience of them ? They seem to produce very lumpy swollen bite sites. Can they develop into an abcess over a period of time - like a couple of weeks ?

Never seen a bite mark as such but when they’ve landed on my boy when out riding he’s gone ballistic to the point I’ve had to get off whilst he is bronching!

I suppose any bite could abscess if infected. Sorry not much help.

Have had a few issues over the years, oddly with bigger horses whether rugged or unrugged, but never the native ponies!
The keds are a ruddy nuisance, particulary found in NW Surrey and Hampshire borders which is also an area where infected ticks have caused Lymes disease for a number.
Have never heard if a ked bite causing an abscess, but wouldn't rule it out.......
