We have a really lovely playful loving loyal 20 month old deerhound castrated boy who needs a new home. He is fully vaccinated, microchipped and wormed to date. He gets on with all people from knee high to bigger ones. He is also really good with all dogs, a little over friendly if anything. His only vice is he is extremely playful and that is his down fall in my house hold. He is being beaten up by the other hounds and he is for ever going to the vets to be put back together again :(

He is extremely healthy apart from a sensitive stomach, he has to stay on a strict diet, it is not an expensive diet just strict.

He is use to horses. Not suitable for a home with cats or chickens. The ideal home for him would be a home where he is the only dog or with another dog who is as laid back and playful as him.

PM if you are interested with your email address and I will send you photos

Good luck with finding him a super home, that must have been a hard decision for you but you've put the dog first. We had to do exactly the same thing with our beloved whippet, who we rehomed 18 months ago in exactly the same situation as you, I still think of her each day.

I am sorry you had to rehome your whippet, I know exactly how you felt, it has been a tough decision, we have put it off and tried other solutions but so far nothing has worked and putting it off has only put him in more sticky situations :( I had always wanted a deerhound so when we had room to get one I was thrilled, but it has all gone terribly pear shaped I did not dream that my borzoi would not take to him. I hoped by having him castrated it would quiet him down and the borzoi would tolerate him, but alas no :( Don't know what else to do. I have phoned the deerhound club and alerted their rehoming scheme.

i found him very hard to resist without the pics.,now its even worse. i used to have a deerhound many years ago and they are my favourite breed BUT i am in a tiny cottage with 2 dogs(one of them also has colitis so i know how to manage diet), own a horse who is costing me loads in vets bills and have just sold all of my jewellry to help make ends meet, and know that i must keep my sensible head on. there must be someone out there for such a lovely dog, please please someone take him so i can relax.....

Oh I am so sorry you have had tough times, it is always so difficult when one of our animals is ill as it is but with added complications must be terrible.

We do have someone who is interested in him and they are coming next weekend to meet him. So fingers crossed it will go well. I will keep all posted.

I hope you horse gets better and things get on an even keel for you xx

thankyou for your thoughts, yes life can be very trying at times, really hope you can find a good home for your boy, he looks absolutley stunning, how could anyone not want him? lots of luck at the weekend and look forward to a good news post next week..:D:D

well Macaulay is still with out a new forever home :( I feel so so sorry for the poor chap and I am forever on tender hooks worried he is going to get really hurt by the borzoi.

So sorry Splashgirl not a happy ending yet :( But I am still hopeful there is someone special out there for this gentle special boy

Hi, a friend of mine just told me about your boy. Have you homed him yet? I am not good with forums etc so can't make head or tail of who is saying what I am afraid! I have owned and bred Deerhounds for some years now and know of several good possibilities. Have you contacted the breed club rehoming? If you are still looking, let me know and maybe we could exchange tel. number and sort for you? I have recently homed a couple and know several people who have recently lost theirs so do let me know. All the best.

I got your email, tried to call you last night, but couldn't get through. I still have him, no one suitable has appeared yet. I have to make sure he goes to the right home. I am in touch with the breed club but they have not produced anyone yet. He needs a special person to love him as he is such a special boy

I can't believe that someone suitable hasnt come along, he looks a super boy and you have been so honest with his description etc. Good luck as with time ticking on it cant be getting any easier for you.

A friend of mine has a deerhound bitch and two lurcher bitches; they are beautifully cared for - but live outside in lovely heated kennels with all mod cons, lots of long walks etc etc. Does this sound like a suitable environment for your boy?

I have mentioned him to my friend who was 'quite interested' but will pursue him further if you think it could be a possibility?

someone said I was being too fussy. I know what kind of home I want for him. Nothing too outrageous, I would like him to go to someone who is at home most of the time so he is not left alone. For him to be either the only dog or one of two. That is all, nothing too unachievable, you would think!!

He is easy to feed, his diet is strict not expensive, about £1.00 a day !

I am sure someone will come along who is suitable <sigh> as it is hard as it is and as you say the more it goes on the worse the break it is not just for me but also for him :(

Hi Fairy

Sounds nice, he is very playful are your friends dogs very playful? he lives outside and sometimes inside, depends on how he is feeling really. He loves company and he loves playing :)

Hi DD

the deerhound is very playful and a lovely girl - the lurchers are older and a bit aloof, the smaller of the two is maybe a little shy!

If I PM my email address any chance you could send me a couple of photos and I will pursue my pal at the weekend :);)

I'd have him like a shot myself but my OH is allergic to the two dogs we already have ;)

thanks SG I am sure the right owner is around the corner. I just have to be vigilant and keep my standards up not dropping them in panic, if you know what I mean :)

I will keep everyone up to date. I have got a few people looking for me and I have him on a couple more forums

My godmother breeds deerhounds and is a judge – if you can't find a home would it be a good idea for me to ask her to put word out on the deerhound grapevine?

They are SUCH beautiful dogs, and borzoi too. What a shame they didn't get on.

that is really kind of you Susanna. So many people have told me lately that it is common knowledge borzoi and deerhounds don't get on........wish someone had told me before I got my self in this pickle...........the breed club rescue co-ordinator is aware of Macaulay

Send me a PM with details if you'd like me to pass on word. How bizarre that they don't get on – why on earth would that be?? The mind boggles. Anyway, hopefully your boy can have a new home soon.

Hello,
I saw an old advert for your Deerhound in need of a new home and wonder if you still have him.
We have recently lost our much loved male Deerhound and are desperate to give our love to another Deerhound.
We live in South West Scotland.
Please let me know if he is available.

Thank you

Hello

I am really sorry over the loss of your boy, it is always so sad. This plea is rather old, last sumer actually. Macaulay found his new forever home before christmas, he is a very much loved and spoilt boy.

Have you contacted Deerhound Rescue? there is also a site called Sight hounds I think.

Good luck in finding your new forever sofa warmer
