I already have a greyhound (rescued) and a Springer (or minger as we call him) spaniel.
I love the deerhounds and was wondering what they are like to live with??/

Ooooh pics would be lovely.
Wolfhound would be another choice....are pups a huge amount of money and do they take up as much room as they look like they wil...lol!!
Saw them at crufts on Sat....gorgeous!

Cross the deerhound and the greyhound and you'll have some excellant lurchers.

OH has one, he's fab, pre-ban had a serious reputation this way. And such a softy too!

Pups are generally o.k to feed and probably not that much more expensive than any other dog. They can require tripe and scrambled egg but it is up to the breeder usually and then you can choose yourself. They take up such a small space in the house even when fully grown and as long as a good soft bed is provided, they tend to stay put. Ours will sprawl over the floor if too warm (which he always is!) but you step over him. We actually hoover around him but he will lift his paws to hoover under.
Here is a brilliant and humerous web site that will give you so many answers and tell you more about the breed but don't hesitate to contact me if you need any more info!

Food is not a great cost when fully grown as they eat comparitively small amounts but get insurance up to the eyeballs as vets bills are pricey due to size.

Bes of luck with your choice whatever it is!

There's a deerhound pup at our yard - lovely dogs, really easy to look after etc, just have to be careful when they are young (like any giant breed) that they don't over exert themselves. Prefer deerhounds to wolfhounds myself I'm afraid, I like the 'rangier' look of the deerhound

Of course not! save away! I have many many more of the stinkmeister in various modes from hunting to pooing!lol!

Can quite understand that! The Deerhound is so 'springy' looking and swift...we love them too but adore the character and sheer ooomph of the wolfhound...deerhounds a close second!

my baby girl Tanya , she was deer hound x wolf hound, the best dog in the world even if she liked to wash rabbits

Oh so sad hoo-ya....she was beautiful!!!

Still 50/50 as to deerhound or wolfhound. However, looking on epupz at the puppy prices I may be saving for a while.
Hey polaris.....post the pooing pic...lol. No joke I bet your poo bags must be huge!!!!!!

One ploopy pic coming up!lol!
Poor pup has no privacy as we weren't actually trying to take one but he squatted just at that time!

You could lose a small child in his poo but some days he poos like a minature!

There you go some more to try to sway you!

Fantastic...I love him.
The one of him looking out of the car is a cracker.
Jus been back to epupz again to look at the breeders.

Did you have a crate for him as a pup....do they do them big enough????

By the way ....showed my hubby the pics and he is all for it!!!

just had to pay £750 for a new transfer box on my freelander so I need to save up again though!!

Lol!!!! We didn't crate him but I do think they make huge sized crates. Hazzie (Hazard!) took around 4 hours to house train and has never been in the house even when he has had a dicky tummy. We taught him to rattle the door keys when he wants to go out and he still does. Ours doesn't jump on the furniture and never has but lots of Wolfies do like to 'sit' on the sofa next to you and many will claim it for their own and have a good sprawl.Biggest tip I can give is to get one in Summer so your back door can be open pretty much all the time so they can go and toilet in the garden.
Take a look at this it is so true and makes fab. reading. Sorry if I am over enthusiastic but we adore ours as he is just so quirky and are so excited at the prospect of you and your OH owning one in the future!!!!

Absolutley loving the photies...what a character!! i think thats what I like about them.
Thanks for the link..it was really interesting.
Is Hazzie your only dog???

Do you have time to work or do you just spend 24/7 taking pictures of your dog!!

He is so photogenic I can't say I blame you. All I get is 3 bums disappearing over the horizon when I try to capture mine

Thanks guys!!! I am in the Airforce and the biggest wrench is leaving my wife and pup for long periods (4+ months at a time)thankfully not that often as he would waste away. Although my wife is with him all day he pines after 2 months for me poor wifey does all she can but he just pines! I take so many piccies of him as he is just such a character and having lost my horses I know that when he is gone they will be a great source of happy memories.
Same as any dog owner lol!!!!!
I love the stinker to pieces...he is THE most humerous and stubborn dog in the world.
You'll notic oneof thepack that there are few of him running.....as all I get is a tail so you are a better photographer than me if you get bums!lol!
