Defensive position, may be a silly question

Oh how do I describe this one!!!!
Mary king does quite a bit off jumping in the defensive position. It's when you ride into the jump with your legs a bit to far forward and sitting back and sort off bracing yourself as if your expecting something to happen so you stand a good chance off surviving it

So its not a bad thing then, someone told me i have a good defensive jumping position and i didn't know what it was:o
My horse isn't young or inexperienced though he is just very strong when jumping.

don't think it's a bad thing. I sit defensive on some off my problem horses when they are threating me so hopefully can sit their tamtums

To me where my horse is concerned, its sitting back on approach until we've taken off.

Otherwise I think I'd have quite a few teeth missing from dirty stops :p

Would agree with Monsters basically :)

in my last lesson before ponio went lame my instructor focussed a lot on my defensive riding position - mostly because I ride is an overly 'aggressive' position most of the time as i tip forward on the approach to jumps - habit formed through polo and horseball i think! He told me to basically push all your weight into your heels, imagine your heels are lead weights, and push your heels further forward to push your weight backwards a bit. He also said to stay in this position but shift weight outwards around corners to act as a sort of stabiliser(!) when pony decides to ignore my polite requests to collect before the corner...!
basically its all about attempting to stay attached to the horse..!
