We have decided that I am only going to lightly ride Ted from now on just to keep him ticking over inbetween driving. However what does this mean, does this mean no canter ? or trot ?

Cookies to all who got this far

I dont know Ted or his capabilities but to me light work means hacking,up to 1 hour [ish] with a short trots/canters or some easy schooling with no sustained trot or canter work .
This 3or4 times a week would keep a horse reasonably fit without being too demanding. Most horses only do light to medium levels of work.

Ted is a shetland pony, he is being broken to drive. I am 5ft, 7 and weigh 8 stone, I rode him a few weeks back but had to stop as he was getting footy because he was barefoot

In that case not as much as I said before.
Some trotting on soft ground and probably 20 mins 2/3 times a week. You could then build up if he is coping well.
