Definitely NOT Another Barefoot Thread! ;)

Thanks WM

Quite why you feel the need to be so obtuse and combative I'm not quite sure. If you've nothing constructive or nice to say, then try not saying anything.
Or go and stir up something else. I'm really not interested in your petty comments.
:)
Listen up, I have made several helpful comments as have others, suggesting a farriers rasp for current problem, and a full set of tools to remove shoes, and a diet to support healthy hoof growth in order to help the horse in future.
I don't need anything on my horses feet, I feed him vitamins and minerals throughout the year. You wanted to know if the Bacon formula would be good value, well the answer is, is that farriers who sell this stuff recommend it, most of the others think it is a waste of time putting anything on the feet, I would also recommend exercising in the sea, ....constructive enough?
I suggest you put me on your barred list so you won't see any more of my posts.

hi , thumbs up for Kevin Bacon here, event horse whose feet cracked terribly, shoes hanging off after about 3 weeks every season, tried Kev, great improvement, use now about 3 times a week.feet never look dry and no longer crack. my other 2 only shod in front and compete at lower levels . touch wood, feet are great no splits and healthy and clean. it def stops them from drying out. all horses, situations are different, but i wouldnt be without it. had tried others, didnt help.defo worth a try, give it time and another good trim, i think you ll be impressed. good luck

If the cracks are just trauma, then the only thing I find that works is Father Time.

It will grow out of it's own accord, meanwhile just make sure they are balanced and the walls are kept relatively short to reduce stresses on weak horn.

If it continues to crack despite good foot management, then, hoof quality may be the cause of your problem.

Miss L Toe has made helpful comments which are in fact correct, I think you are the one being rather combative and frankly a bit of a know it all, people on this thread have a wealth of knowledge and are willing to share it but you are choosing to ignore it which imo is rather obtuse.

Miss L Toe, dressagelove - I'm not interested in arguing with you. Anyone who cares to read back over the thread will see that not all comments have been helpful, you didn't read the OP and just accused me of keeping my horse in crap condition. Whatever, I don't even know you - matters not to me!
There are also many comments from me thanking other posters for their helpful advice - NOT being a know it all :)
If for some reason you think you need to be like this, well there's not a lot I can go about that. But there are enough petty arguments on this forum already, and this is the last I'll say on this one.

WM I'm in the north west but thanks anyway!! :)

I'll also get a lick as they don't have one in their current field and really should have.

Tallyho I think you are right about Father Time - made me chuckle!
He's always had really good feet before, especially for a tb so hopefully once the cracks have grown out he'll be back to normal. If he's not though I'll look at supplements.
Bit disappointed that a lot of people say creams are not the way to go! I love an instant fix :D But hey, that's why I asked! :)

Terri water around the trough would be a great idea, until OH saw it lol. Would tubbing help do you think?

A lot of people (not everyone I know, but most) seem to think that Kevin Bacon is a waste of time, so glad I asked on here before going out and spending!

Thanks once again

I can't think of a reply which would make you happy. I did read the Original Post, I read all the posts. I upset you because I stated that a horse with bad feet is not in good condition.....just like a car that has a puncture is not roadworthy.
I have put you on my ignore list.

No I wouldn't tub. My water area is worn down so nothing is gonna grow. I slosh a few buckets am and Pm as it doesn't stay wet constantly especially in dry weather. Actually my OH is quite good in keeping this done! It's a compromise on him wanting to slather in lotions and creams. I just point out one is free and the other costs. Didn't take him long to start slinging buckets!

I have read the whole thread, I don't feel anyone was trying to be anything other than helpful, I don't feel Miss L Toe was meaning that your horse is in a bad way she was I think just making a point about what cracked hooves usually mean, that something isn't quite right in the feed balance. I understand that you would feel criticised though but I don't think that was the intention. Hope you get it sorted. :)
