I'm looking for a sharer for my mare, or at least, I think I am!!

She's come back into work after a couple of years off due to injury, and whilst I hack her out, or ride and lead, I don't really have time to ride both. As such I think I am looking for a sharer, but not sure if 'sharer' is the right term. Basically I want someone who will effectively treat her as their own, and ride as much or as little as they want, love her etc etc. I don't necessarily want someone to do chores (she generally lives out so not much to do anyway!) but if they want to be 'that' involved, they are more than welcome.

So is this a Sharer, or more a loan/ part loan but to stay at present yard? I wasn't really looking for any monetary contribution so loan doesn't seem quite appropriate. I've not had much luck advertising her so am starting to wonder if perhaps I am not looking in quite the right place, or advertising her wrongly. I'm finding it a bit of a mine field really knowing where to start!!

I always think of 'share' as less formal than 'part loan', which in my point of view deffo involves some sort of money contribution or chores.
But I don't think there is any harm in describing it as a Share/part loan and describe what you mean in the blurb.
Good luck finding someone.

I have been doing what you describe and loosely call it a share, only difference was i made a small contribution each month. I poo picked when i was there ( he lives out 24/7) and had free rein to ride, groom etc. In a way it's more of a favour, your horse gets ridding and fuss and the rider gets good pickings on what/when they do.

I'm actually looking for the same again if anyone hears this! Only prob a have is that if i fully share i wouldn't necessarily get to school the horse as two people doing that might be conflicting...maybe!?

I'm looking for a sharer in Hertfordshire, are you anywhere near Hertford?

Thanks all.

Bitlessbill, that was my understanding of a sharer too, so I see what I am offering as more than that, but without responsibility so not a loan. Equally though, if someone amazing came along and wanted to loan her then I wouldn't object...

So, for anyone wanting to find a horse for share, would you be put off by one where you were not in effect 'sharing' it with the owner, but doing pretty much as you please (within reason)? To be honest, I thought people would snap my hand off - unlimited riding, no monetary contribution, no chores - but I've not even had any responses to my ad. Ho hum...

When I was sharing Ellie I did pretty much as I pleased with her when I rode. Was also able to ride as and when I pleased as owner had other horses she needed to work. I also paid a set fee each month. No problems there but I would have snapped her hand off if her owner had said I could do what I wanted with Ellie and for FREE :D

Now I'm loaning Ebony and I'm responsible for all her bills - and is actually working out cheaper for me than sharing Ellie

Certainly wouldn't be put off, thats my idea of heaven :D

I am sharing at the mo.. pay a set amount each month for 2 days per week where i ride, groom, muck out etc on my days.. i think sharing is fantastic and am so lucky to have this opportunity as i couldnt afford to own my own horse and this way for 2 days per week it feels like i do.. love my share :) x

bump this as im thinking of asking someone to 'share' my super laid back gent when i got my hand busy with my young boy. will be interesting to see outcome.

what about tack etc?
i live a while away from the fields and dont leave tack down there for security reasons

I think sharing is a prety flexible thing. As a sharer, I've had a variety of situations, including being solely responsible for horse on my half-days in a week, as well as helping to exercise, but not being a vital part of horse's routine as owner has other horses on the same yard to look after.

My experience of part-loaning was being solely responsible for horse on my days, and being the only one riding the horse. If I'd of wanted to do 7 days a week, that would have been fine with the owner.

I don't think any of these terms are strongly defined - they mainly suggest some involvement with the exercise/care of a private horse I guess, but all owners needs are slightly different.

Jm2k I have a similar situation, we are a private yard (just mine there) and I keep all my tack at home. It was my intention, should I ever find anyone, that they keep hold of her tack.

From what I understand sharing = part loaning. You pay a certain amount (or some people don't ask for contributions) for a set number of days on which you have free rein with that horse.
Loaning is where you effectively sell the horse but still legally own it - the loaner is responsible for everything but the horse will still belong to you.
I have shared for 8 years now with the same lady (due to time commitments and having 2 horses) and started off paying for 2 days a week, doing jobs, riding, grooming etc. Now I'm at uni, I have Kel when I am back home, her owner rides with us on other horse and I go every day. Her owner will no longer accept payment - its a case of having to pay for feed/vet/farrier when I can! ;) Kelly's been very poorly lately, but been with her through it all and have had opportunity to exercise the other mare whilst Kelly is out of action. I've been very lucky in the arrangement.
Preloved is a good one to advertise on, but sharer sounds a good idea to advertise for :)
