Reading todays HandH, i see Defra are considering putting this nonsense "horse tax" up to £100- the £10 idea was bad enough! if this is the case, and so far Defra are not denying this, where will this leave the general public, many already struggling to keep their horses and ponies in tip top condition? more worryingly, where does it leave the welfare organisations who i'm sure are struggling to make ends meet, especially with the recession? anyway, i read on and find a little snippit aboutDefra(again!) being exposed by the CAfor spending £180,000 on re-vamping their web site as it looked too "brown" and "too agricultural"!!!! for gods sake, do they not represent agriculture!!!! what alot of hypocrites----

OMG please tell me this is not true..... I could stomach the £10 as this would not be impossible to find but £100 is that per horse or per owner???? Is ridiculous........

DEFRA have convinced me that they are in fact desk bound money grubbers who exist solely to make farmers lives hell. I doubt if any of them have ever shovelled cow [****] or know what bumble foot looks like. Bunch of anal sphincters the lot of them

This is my polite answer, I would otherwise be banned from HHo

Great stuff! £500 for me! Not to mention the threat of having to microchip all my sheep which is defo NOT financially viable to keep farming!
What about a scroungers baby tax? Just think of all the money from the Vicky Pollardites! A girl I know is pregnant again for the SEVENTH time (all different dads) Of course she and the new chap dont work! This country is bol**cksed! Sorry, got me going now...shall go and have a cup of tea to calm down....

all this makes me wonder if bringing in the passports was a back door way of knowing about all equines in the country so this could at a later date be introduced bringing in much revenue!!!

Oh poo £2100 for me, not a hope will they get a penny of it i will just leave the registration at my old address, when or if they find me they will have to take me to court to get a blasted penny from me.
Where is that going to leave all us small time breeders that breed a small amount of good RC horses each year.

Maybe DEFRA would like to explain why the tax on horses could run into hundreds yet the proposed levy on sheep and cattle is pence?

probably, in their eyes, people usually have a lot more livestock than horses. Dont agree with either. As I said before, a tax on sponging wasters would be welcome!

I am sure it was!!! so typical of officials!! I remember sometime ago there was talk of farmers being paid money for each horse they had on their land, not sure if this ever happened but they had to register to do get it. My old land owner said no way was he doing it despite it would have been a fair bit of money to him, he knew they had something like this going on

yeah but its not coming from Defra it starts with the EU another levy to help raise funds for managing the meat trade legislation but thats not all they plan on implementing a new livery tax for livery yards and stud too

We all need to wake up.... the damage that is being done to normal folk by, new taxes, the climate change con and the real bogey man the EU .... get us out now , shut up the mad proffesors and the vested intrests in the climate change scam, sack at least 1/2 of the goverment penpushers , get some manufacturing going and suport our farmers so we can feed ourselves ..........

If it's EU driven legislation, then the whole of the UK will have to pay.

ah yes, but the meeting recently was in Cardiff where the Defra official did not denythe fact- does this mean it will include Wales too, if so, they'll go whole hog and include all of the country?

Bollocks thats £700 quid for us, Oh well looks like we will just have to become thieving Pikeys and not pay ANY taxes!!
