Does anyone know much about degenerative bone disease? My boy has been diagnosed with it in both front pastern joints. He is going for Cortisone injections directly into the joints on Friday. He is (or was) competing at Ele/Med dressage, but I doubt he will be able to get back to this level. He is 18 so I have to expect he isnt going to be totally clean limbed.

Has anyone had anything similar? Vet has recommended an Athroscopy, but very hesitant as dont want to put him under general anaesthetic due to his size - 17hh Irish Draught, and carrying a bit of weight.

I had a friend who had a horse with this a few years back. He had regular Cortizone injections which did the trick but was also changed into Natural Balance shoes by vets recommendation. He kept him sound and going for a good while longer. Hope this helps
