Dehydrated pony with glands up!?

Hi there this morning Ive foudn my pony to be dehydrated (pinch test) with her glands up, her glands were up yesterday - her field mate has had a slight bug so I wasnt too shocked, but she hasnt drunk anything in approx. 24 hours at all and obviously want to improve things! .. shes now out in the field and im going to be checking on her as more moisture in the grass than her hay, she eats haylage usually in her stable of a night but last night she didnt eat quite so much .. Im going to soak up her feed and hay ready for tonight and put an apple or two in her water and treat her with her salt lick ... but does anyone else has any more advice? I will gte the vet in tomorrow but obviously Im on my own at the mo it being a sunday so any help and advice is very much welcomed!

Could you have a very watery sugar beet/speedibeet or apple juice solution made up meantime?
 
i would call the vet. Try some apple juice in her water. speedi beet sugar beet ready mash extra is very good for getting fluids into your horse coz it is all soaked feeds!
 
Hi - don't know if it will be any help, but we have just had our pony bloodtested for sort of the same problem.

Is your pony eating well? Ours isn't, and hardly drinking at all overnight in stable - also not eating much haylage. Pinch test and blood test both sugggested dehydration (red cells highish) but no other problems.

Vet has suggested the eating bit could be ulcers, and that the grass at the mo here (Scotland) is shooting up and has a lot of water in it, so not to panic. He seems to be peeing a lot though, so perhaps the water is just going straight through without hydrating him???

We have suspected ulcers before with him, so if you horse is not showing other signs of that, then ignore this bit.

Have you taken his temperature? Ours is normal, but it's worth checking.

Interested to see any more ideas on this!!!!!!!!!!!!
