Does anyone know roughly how much it costs to demolish out buildings please?
I'm aware that it must vary depending on size and type of materials but I can't seem to find any info on the internet to get a rough idea of cost.

Does anyone know who I could ask? Just a local builder?

I'm aware that if need to seek advice/ planning to go ahead.

Don't know if this is helpful but I've just had a single brick built garage demolished. Specialist demolition company (just googled them) and cost £800 including removal of waste and asbestos roof.

Yes best to get a few quotes. It will depend very much on whether asbestos is involved or not. Unless you are in a conservation area, you won't need pp but be aware that if you wish to rebuild/ replace it you will need pp. My neighbour has just re-built his stable block round the old one, so that he didn't need to take it down and apply for pp.

How long is a piece of string? I was once given the job of arranging the demolition of a large country mansion. The job was advertised in a contractors' magazine. I had quotes varying from a few thousand to do the demolition to several who wanted to pay us so they could salvage the materials. I was instructed to accept an offer to do the job for a few hundred pounds. The contractor bull dozen all the debris into an redundant swimming pool and it took him half a day! If a contractor has no jobs for his work force, he might be happy for something for them to do to keep them busy. That's the way it sometimes works.

It depends what your outbuildings are made of and what building work is going on in your area. If brick or stone, someone might do it for nothing as there is a demand for builders' rubble. A local farmer might be pleased to take bricks away, for example, to fill up muddy gateways. Someone might take timber away for fire wood. I suggest you advertise, asking for quotes, in your local newspaper or ask local builders. You might also advertise in the "Free" section of Gumtree.

Thank you both.
The 2 buildings do have asbestos roofs unfortunately and have been told it can be expensive to get rid off.

The buildings are a lot bigger than a garage but that's a useful figure to know, especially as it had an asbestos roof. Thank you.

I feel a bit stressey having spent my adult life trying to acquire outbuildings the thought of demolishing them upsets me .

Be really sure that you want to knock them down, you may not get planning to replace them. We bought a disused dairy farm, with planning to demolish all the associated bungalow, sheds and barns to replace with stables and a house. The barns were perfectly usable just tatty so we left them. We reapplied for planning and have now just finished the bungalow which is bigger than the existing bungalow and garage. Changes in planning laws have made it possible to convert the old farm building in to housing/ business use which is our next project.
Asbestos sheeting as long it is whole sheets is not too much of a problem. If its a small amount your local council will perhaps let you dispose of so much, but it has to be bagged and tagged. Our old garage was made from asbestos by shopping around we go a skip, which is enclosed, then the sheets were put in. We had to pay a large deposit, but it cost about £600, and you get a note to say its been land filled correctly. Do not let anyone con you into thinking its going to cost thousands.
Its easy to let other peoples views colour your judgement, at one point we had the barns surveyed for a loan and were told they were worth nothing, when actually they are worth £200,000 plus.

Thank you for all the replies. Wasn't sure if I'd get any but such a knowledgable bunch of people on here. Thanks all for your help.
The buildings aren't in great shape, and the one that is, is too low for stables. Not sure whether the roof can be removed and it be extended upwards as it's wooden. Will have to be looked into further.
