So they came to are yard and told me to change ebs feed to 1kg of alfa a for breakfast and another 1kg for dinner and 2 mug fulls of balancer in each dinner with the speedy beet and rang are local feeds shop [good friends with them to]to order some and they said its the most stupid thing they have heard and the denges lady said this feeds going to calm her down and take the egde off
and i was told dont waste £25!they are just trying to sell there products and just try a calmer? but he said i need the 'edge' when it comes to jumping and dont bother with the feed coz its probz just the horse:o:rolleyes:

So anyone disagree? or know of a good calmer? :)

Do you want ebony calmer or are you happy how she is?
If you want her calmer but just at shows I'd recommend instant magic its in a syringe you give it a couple of hourse befored you jump and then the next day she's back to normal self.
If you want her calmer all the time I have put my horse on Dodson and Horrell calm and condition and I'm already seeing a difference in him.
I wouldn't go and buy extra feed if you want a nutritinalist to see your horse get an independent one, ie one who is not trying to sell a certain product.

Well, yes Dengie are in the business of selling feed and obviously want you to buy their brand. But their advice is correct in that by basing your bucket feed around fibre feeds rather than cereal-based ones like mixes, your horse or pony is likely to become calmer. However, there are plenty of other fibre feeds and balancers out there as well as Dengie ones, so if you have difficulty sourcing the Dengie products, there are other ones that will do a similar job. I must say I can't really see the point of feeding high cereal feeds and then adding a calmer (which are not usually cheap themselves).

What are you feeding at the moment?

Actually it is Allen & Page who make Calm and Condition! C&C is lower in cereals than some traditional feeds, but still contains maize. It works well for some horses, but some people find their animals are still loopy on it and they need a totally cereal free diet to keep their horses calm.

What are you currently feeding her? as a nutritionist I would actually be quite happy with the diet she has suggested. You're mare sounds like she is getting way too much energy and it doesn't get worked out of her. The beauty of the diet you have been given is it is an excellent baseline and could be added to if you need more oomph

Oh yeah its Allen and Page :p But I agree with cereals by the look of ebs she would probably benefit from a cereal free diet. When you look at feeds look at one with no cereals and not a lot of protein.

Unfortuantly with feeds it a bit like trial and error, what can work for one horse may have the complete opposite effect on another one. If you want her calmed down a bit I'd recommend the magic liquid or powder. The liquid is more expensive as it gets into the horses sytem faster.

I wouldn't recommed blue chip calmer as I found it made absolutly no difference to my horse.
