Got there at 8am (FARR too early!)
Got pony off, and he has stood on himself, not too bad I reckon and sound so no problems. Hav him tidy and clean, tack and turnout pass, warmed up, me convinced he was going to be eliminated (not me riding him btw) at a blue viaduct wall and a big dred double.. (well...big for 75cm!)
Nope, he got clear BUT 2 time faults. The time was wayyy too tight, not good for juniors IMO as encouraged them to gallop and cut their lines. But, that was him out but we're delighted as he really jumped and wanted to. 30 odd clears out of 110 I think in the end, some cracker falls (paramedics jumping down over fences from the stands etc.!) but no-one hurt I think.

Then my turn, had lad in a lovely rhythm, he was clearing every jump by miles. First half of the round was great, perfect. Treble was strided perfectly vfor a big horse. Then we got a bit faster, I let him go over the water tray as I wasn't sure he'd jump it didn't look!) and the last jump, went to fast and he had it.....

Decided to do 1.10 as he was going so well. It wasn't really a 1.10 except the last two jumps, BUT they shortened the treble right up, so any normal horse found it really difficult and I think there were only about 3/4 clears, most people got knocked out in the treble. Not sure why the last stride was so short? (pony rather than horse strided)
So, he jumped up to the treble perfectly. Then I had him right back to me, and he pulled off on the last stride, and ploughed through two and three, completely panicked himself I think, couldn't get himself out of it. Did number 8 ok (it was very small vertical) then even though we got set up right for 9, he took the top two front poles and the back pole off, and I let him run on to ten to see if that helped, and same thing. Took him out to the practise arena and he's started taking off at his fences again, so I think he has completely destroyed his confidence (am I correct do you think?) so not too pleased there....

ok then.. anyone out of those 64 replies got anything to say? Do you think his confidence was knocked or could he just have been wound up?
Is it normal for trebles to be so short at the end?

Were there ponies jumping in the class as well? When we jump at mossvale on a Monday, there is the odd pony who comes up to jump as well, but because it is a horse night, the distances are set at horse distances, and the ponies have to stretch. However most 14.2's seem to be able to do horse distances, so not sure why they shortened up unless had had complaints earlier.
Not sure about lack of confidence issue though. Can you jump him at home during the week, or take him somewhere to jump a smaller class.

one or two, but considering the 1m 'Senior Dengie' class was set at a long horse stride (he finds doubles short and found it ok) which was fine, everything prety much made it bar a couple and you can't suit a class of 12.2's to 17.2's!
But this is for proper horses, grade A's and senior riders really, not for ponies.
He is going to a comp on wednesday, I'm probably going to do the 80/85 and 1m to get him happy again but didn't realise that was all it would take to knock him back?

Our grey mare is the same unfortunately!! XC she will pretty much jump anything, off any angle and off any stride thanks to all her hunting. However SJ she is a different story and D needs to keep her confidence up or she starts to back off big time.
Sounds like a great idea to do a smaller class during the week, I hope he has forgotten all about Saturday.
Agree about the striding as well - if it is a horse class, it should be strided for horses (or not use a treble at all).

Sienna has had a couple of incidents where her confidene has been knocked and come back as bold as ever. You just need to ensure he has no scares for a couple of outings, you sound like you are doinf the rightthing sticking to some smaller courses for awhile.
Difficult to comment on the striding, can't see how a coursebuilder could build for ponies and horses at 1.10. Would be bound to be wrong for one or the other. Sounds like the course was a bit iffy though, if there were that many people crashing & burning
