Has anyone tried these new feeds ?

My horse doesn't like the normal Hi Fi lite so I just wondered what this one was like

It isn't currently reccommended by the Lami Trust, but must be better if there's no molasses ? I spoke to Dengie and they said you'd just have to watch the weight as these new feeds have higher oil level

I had a sample bag of the molasses free Hi Fi. One of mine loved it, the other wouldn't touch it so I am sticking to what I already use as I know they both like it.

Molasses free has little pellets in it, it isn't just chaff.
 
The little pellets are grass nuts. DE 8.5 where as the hi fi light is 7.5.
The un molassed is covered in soya oil hence the higher DE so if you have a good doer laminitic than it's not idea but if you have a laminitic which needs weight it will be fine as would the alfa a oil. Or if like one off mine which has a allergy to molasses
 
I used to feed Alfa A to my Arab x mare and I found that it had quite a heating effect on her. Guess each horse is different however.
 
I feed the Hi fi. She was a bit miffed the 1st time I gave it to her.... but then it hasn't got molasses so it's not so sweet I suppose! She eats it now. It has some nuts in it.
 
I also won a free bag of the Hi-Fi molasses free and all our horses loved it.
It is marginally higher energy that the normal Hi-Fi (8.5MJ/kg compared with 8 for Hi-Fi) however it is 6.5% oil.
Given that we use chaff only as a means of getting supplements into our horses and that fact that Molasses free was £11.95 a bag and Hi-Fi Lite is £10.40, we went back to Hi-Fi lite. The first day back on the lite, the horses refused to eat it, after that they were fine!

Alfa a will give the same results as a standard mix energy wise which a lot off people don't relise so say you feed a scoop off mix with a scoop off alfa a you are giving quite a lot off energy. Or so the dengie rep tells me
 
I feed mine on the Alfa A molasses free, and love it! They were previously on Alfa A oil, but the new range has mint and fenugreek, as well as prelleted alfalfa for a bit of crunch.

I was getting through a bag of Alfa A oil per week (2 big lads) and now get through 1 bag of molasses free in 2 weeks, and it's cheaper per bag anyway!!!
 
I bought a bag at the weekend instead of usual HI FI Senior. I bought the Alfa A MF.

It is a lot harder/stalkier than the HI FI Senior but horse seems to love it! Licked the bowl clean yesterday which is unheard of. However the bag is smaller as the weight includes the pellets and at £2 more per bag, I'm not sure my pocket likes it as much! Still if she eats it all and is happy then so am I. I only use it as a carrier for her balancer anyway.
 
My horse (WBxTB) has the Dengie Alfa A molasses free, she loves it, but then I haven't found much she doesn't like so far! She had Topspec TopChop Alfalfa before, which is also molasses free, I only bought the Dengie one as the feed store had run out of the TopChop. So I can't comment on it behaviour-wise as I've always tried to avoid molasses anyway. Try and get a free sample from a feed store or Dengie if you can.

That's my understanding, which is why I stopped his Alfa A Lite while he was in with the snow, I think the alfa is supposed to be slow realeased energy but on top of as you say a scoop of mix would be alot

As we are back to normal now (touch wood) I was going to put him back on the Alfa A lite but then I saw the advert for the new feed on the back of H & H.

I'm going through a bag of Spillers high fibre cubes very quickly because I'm not feed the Alfa, if I was I'd cut down the cubes anyway

Thanks, I've called them and they are sending me a sample, my horse had lami few years back to am just being very careful. He's 32 and thinks he's 3 and definitely doesn't need any fizziness
 
I used it until I read the oil content! I used to use Simple Systems and wanted an alternative, now I am using Top Chop Lite, which seems to suit and is cheaper.

With your bag of Alfa-A molasses free, does it say the vitamins amount on the back of the bag, need it for my college work
