Could anyone tell me if this product is known to be heating as have only fed Dengie Hi Fi.

I am helping look after 2 retired ex racers at the moment who are fed it, and they are getting progressively more skittish by the day and was just wondering if they were reacting to it?

They only have 1/2 a stubbs scoop of it per feed, plus a handful of pony nuts and a little beet. They have approx 8 - 10 kg haylage whilst in, which although doesn't sound a lot, their displays of excess energy would suggest otherwise!!!!

Equally they only want 4 -5 hrs turnout per day (have tried to make them stay out longer, but just results in a trashed field and difficult beahviour when being led in), don't get much ridden excercise, so appreciate that feed is only a minor factor.

Thanks is advance.

I'm quite anti-Alfa A....although I do know a lot of people rave about it. I found my old TBx didn't agree with it in the slightest....within a few days of being on it, his behaviour was vile, his skin was itchy and he windsucked a lot. Took him off of it, all that stopped.
My current horse is on it, but he is a windsucker (I've only had him a week), so my first step is to take him off the Alfa A and see what effect it has.

I feed it to most of the horses here, even my TB, who is on box rest with walking out in hand and I have not found it heating.

I have never had a problem with it with my TB Ex-racers. They are fed it with TopSpec Conditioning Flakes or Bailey's No. 4. And I don't find it makes them any worse or energetic for it. Though I have to say I rode these horses in training when fully fit so I know what they are like and it may be that in their lazy lives this food is making them behave like they used to. Everyones perception of highly strung and skittish is different.
