Is this the stuff that's approved by the Laminitis Trust but still considered the devil by barefooters because it contains sugar? I had to buy the molasses free Healthy Hoof yesterday because my usual hi fi mol free had been sold out. Has anyone used this and has it had any detriment to their bf horse? (It's a new product, only just come out I think). Had a look on ingredients and can't see any nasties, although it does include garlic which I'm not that happy about.

I have been using Healthy Hooves for about 2 years for my two barefoot horses, one of them being a laminitic, with absolutely no problems at all.

Garlic is an antibiotic and can upset gut flora leading to digestive problems. There is a strong correlation between feeding garlic and ulcers.

I've not heard of that before. Used to give it loads as a anti fly thing and never had problems. Surely it'll only be in tiny quantities in the bag of feed and won't do any harm.

Medicinal antibiotics are only fed in tiny quantities too...

It's "Happy Hoof" that is Lami Trust approved but contains molasses etc I think it's a Spillers feed.

There are two Dengie "hoof" chaffs iirc; one similar to Happy Hoof and a newer one that appears to contain less/no unwanted ingredients. I'll just google...

Spillers Happy Hoof - I couldn't find the ingredients on their page so that's a bit strange. Starch is 4% but couldn't see the sugar listed so that's either very strange or I'm very blind (likely). http://www.spillers-feeds.com/products/laminitis-feeds/happy-hoof/

Dengie Healthy Hooves - 5% sugar and contains molasses (2nd listed ingredient after oat straw) but only 1.5% starch http://www.dengie.com/horse-feeds/healthy-range/healthy-hooves/

Dengie Healthy Hooves Molasses Free. 2.5% sugar and 1.5% starch
