Is Dengie Healthy Hooves any good for helping barefoot horses? :)

Also, 3 stubbs scoops seems a lot, how long would this take to eat on average? (He has to eat in a field with 3 other horses) :)

Thank you for taking the time to read and reply :)

Nicole :)

I've used it for a laminitic pony before and have had many friends that use it regularly for feeding their barefooters.

I wouldn't want to feed 3 scoops at once, can you split it into 2 feeds? It seems to takes my pony ages to finish his evening feed which only has 2 stubbs scoops of Hi Fi Original in.

I feed this to Bella and give her 2 scoops a day and it takes her about 15 minutes or so to eat it but I feed it quite wet as she has had choke before. Maybe try giving less and see if he maintains his weight on it ? That way you have some room to play with amounts to see which suits him best?

Sorry in a mood tonight so not taking it out on you guys

BUT

Why all the fuss feeding for barefooters??? Surely any good feed that correlates with the work a horse is in is what the horse needs. Yes if a horse has c**p hooves then a supplement/ ointment may be needed but I have never in the last 10years worried about what to feed a horse without shoes on, not even my TB. He was sore for a bit, but they sorted them selves out after 2 months. Samba came to me with c**p hooves but a daily feed (which was only hi fi light, conditioning cubes and some soya oil) and her feet soon sorted out. Shes now is on no hardfeed, has lick, and hay and her feet and coat are fine.

Sorry I think I need a good cry/bottle of wine/ sleep or something.

I will share the wine promise x x

Come on then, hand over the wine :p

No offense taken btw :)

I feed Bella HH mainly for the biotin in it to strengthen her feet as in the winter we have mud and plenty of it being on clay. My logic is to strengthen her feet so she copes with the damp better. My new loan horse has rubbish feet and has been given HH too and for the first time in a long time she wasn't footy after being trimmed this time around.

It's not about what you do feed, it's what you DON'T feed that gives them rock crunching feet.

Sugar and rich grass aren't great for horses. Some can eat anything (have a little cob like that) and have rock crunching feet. Others are far more sensitive to what they eat and too much mollases, starch or grass will make them footy (also have one like that :( ). The latter is the usual type of horse who most people say 'can't manage barefoot' and put shoe on.

Dengie Healthy Hoof won't suddenly give your horse amazing feet, nor will it help him grow fabululous feet. However it may well be lacking enough in 'nasties' (sugar mostly!) not to prevent the horse growing his own fabulous feet. I couldn't feed it in huge amounts to my sensitive soul (too much sugar) but your horse may well be fine on it.

Hi Fi Lite with seaweed mixed in = a good source of natural vits and mins with minimal sugar.

I feed this to all horses whether shod or unshod.
