This might seem a bit off the wall as i never consider chaff to be a heating feed but lately my very chilled I.D has turned into a spooking nerve ball (who bucked me off on friday) never in the 2 and a half years iv owned him has bucked!

now he was on box rest for 10 weeks in which time he was fed up because he can be prone to dropping weight since being back in work hes been mostly good bit fresh but the last week hes wired to the moon and hes being exersised everyday (not turned out because he cant be yet)

so my question is...is it possible the chaff is having a heating affect on him?! because of the protein i was thinking?! like oats drive him nuts so maybe this is having the same afffect just wondered if anyone experienced this or has any advice?!

thanks :D

I would think after 10 weeks box rest he is just so fresh that any feed will be making him feel good, even ridden exercise, which I expect is restricted at the moment following whatever injury he has suffered, will not replace turnout and it is likely that until he can go out he will just continue to be rather spooky and a bit naughty.
If you can cut him back to just hay it may help, possibly put him on a calmer until he can go out again.

i know what you mean but its not his character at all, he was off for 8 weeks box rest last year (same problem) and he was an absolute lamb- and that was coming off summer and he was fit as a fiddle before he went on rest! thats why im considering it being feed thats affecting him!

im not sure if theres alfalfa in it il have to check, thanks for the replies! :)

These are the ingredients off Dengie website so lots in there to trigger behavioural change:

Ingredients: Oat straw, molasses, alfalfa pellets, dried alfalfa, NIS pellets, soya oil, garlic, vitamin and mineral premix

Thanks so much for the replies I'm hoping this is what it's down to!! I'm going to cut it down to a tiny handful and wean him off it then soon! Fingers xd it works! :-)
