Im thinking about starting to feed this for a bit of condition, does anybody use this and what are your thoughts on it?

Ive heard a lot of excellent 'conditioning' reviews of people, but value for money reviews/feedback is very poor, it would appear that to feed at a conditioning level you are looking at a high level of funds to feed this continuously...

In my opinion, done correctly it is far more cost effective to condition a horse with other feeds, perhaps something like baileys outshine... possibly added linseed and a fibre base... overall it would come out a lot cheaper.

The way I see it, the only reason someone would buy healthy tummy instead of just Alfa A and mix it with alfalfa nuts is for the protexin. If you are feeding it for condition, it's a lot more cost effective to just mix the Alfa a and Alfa nuts together with some store bought soya oil and feed it with a general supplement.

I'm using it and it certainly passes the taste test; my horses love it. They're only getting a handful at the moment though to put their supplements in as its summer and they're living out, so I'm certainly not feeding at therapeutic levels, but the protexin is a bonus, it's an expensive supplement.

One of my livery horses are on it, its very bitty and a lot of power stuff in it liker you get in a weetabit box, loads of crumbs, livery is not eating it at the moment as there is so much grass, I spend my time feeding it then emptying manger where he wont eat it.

I like it, my mare loves it - I'm not feeding it at Dengie's recommended levels but am using it to bulk out her mineral balancer, a little linseed and add more DE and protein; I guess it works out about 50p more the way I'm using it, compared with Alfa A Mollasses Free (which essentially it is, with vit/min premix, Protexin and a few added herbs), but it's working fine so I'm loathe to change things around!! I'm using 1 bag every 2 weeks. Can imagine if it is the sole feed 1 bag wouldn't go very far at all?

I absolutely love it and it has sorted out my haflinger who has a sensitive digestive system, she was especially bad since she was wormed. She is happier, less nappy, less grumpy, more forward, and holds weight as easily as a haffy should (you can imagine a horse of this type who can't keep weight on was a bit worrying!). I don't feed a lot of it though, I basically wanted it for protexin and a bit of alfalfa for ulcer friendly calories. She was also having some gassy episodes having gone onto new grass and it sorted those out too.

I think if using as a conditioning feed I would add something else, maybe Alfa beet or something. I do think it is good value for my purposes though as I have previously been buying separate supplements and separate nuts/chaff/linseed or other oil and getting through them quickly.

I think it would also be great for fussy eaters, I like to make it quite watery and they slurp up all the remaining liquid :-)

An old pony with very few teeth at the yard has just been put on it as there has been a clear improvement in condition. She has been on Alfa oil and fast fibre for a year and done ok. The dengue recommended healthy tummy and the improvement is really clear. Not actually fatter, but an improvement in general condition, rounder, less angular. Her owner is very pleased.
