Poor boy

something new must have shown up when he went to the vets, as february is a much later return date than last predicted, hope he will be ok, poor lad, somewhat doubtful for the GC i would have thought

QR Whatever happens he is with the right trainer to bring him back to health. Remember the likes of Kauto Star, and Call Equiname, both came back from injury to win top class races.
Denman was mightly impressive last season and my guess is that because he is so out of the top drawer -so to speak - he will not be rushed for any specific race this season. Hells knows it is so hard to say at this stage but he may not even make it for the Cheltenham Gold Cup. If he doesn't then while it would be a sad loss for the sporting fans that day, who I am sure are anticipating a rematch with Kauto Star, neither horse has anything to prove in my opinion. They have both proven themselves to be blue riband chasers and both won a gold cup apiece. Winning the Gold cup is what most national hunt trainers and owners dream of. The two horses have done just that. If we don't get a rematch then so what in my opinion. Whilst it would make a fantastic showpiece to see both these titans clash once again, personally I would much rather both horses to be in perfect health for any clash than having undue pressure put on the trainer by the owners or the media for a rematch. Nicholls has already stated that Kauto perhaps wasn't at the top of his game this March and so next year a return to the form he showed in 2007 could see him lift that trophy again.
Whatever happens next March. If both, one or none of the two aforementioned chasers take part in the race then it will still be a race to savour whatever the outcome. Racing needs its equine heroes that is true but not at the expense of horse welfare due to media and public pressure. Paul Nicholls is a very sound man. A true gentleman who is an excellent judge particularly of horses in his care. Whatever decision he makes come next March I am confident he will make the correct one in respect of the wellbeing of his two most popular charges.
I wish Denman the best of luck in his recovery and I am confident that he will make a full one at that, given time.
