Think Ruby will stay loyal to Kauto but there is gonna be one very lucky jockey who picks up the ride on Denman in March. Big Bucks also ran a cracker of a race today I thought.
Watched the recording of racing tonight as been busy at the yard all day today. Denman was awesome in his victory. I too was emotional but then again I was during the gold cup this year when Denman and Kauto were going so well jumping the last few. Heart in mouth stuff and it was so good that day to see Kauto regain his crown on ground more in his favour and to see Denman show himself to be back on song with his gallant second.
But today was a different matter entirely. Denman simply put the field to bed didn't he. While it may look on paper that he did not beat an awful lol today, time will show otherwise as the race often produces a lot of future winners and good runners in top races, like the Grand National for instance. So take note of horses like My Will etc who should be primed for Aintree again, but needs some respite from the handicapper.
Sorry digressing for a moment there. But I love my racing ( always have) and form reading and racewatching too.
It was so good to see Denman back. Nicholls reported that he had his charge in the same form in the run-up to the race as he was two years ago. This man speaks the truth and is someone I have admired for years. When he says a horse is ready or is in the same sort of form as it was when it was winning then take note as he is rarely ( if ever) wrong! In the time I have been watching racing and even after interviewing Nicholls post race I have never seen the man cry or get emotional after a race like he did today. I have personally seen him smile as he made his way to the winner's enclosure but never cry. It was so heart warming to see a trainer ( and a many time champion at that) show so much personal emotion towards one of his horses when he has that many stars in his boxes at Ditcheat.
I truly hope that Denman can build on this effort and it will be another Gold Cup to savour come March if all the worthy candidates stand their ground.
As for Big Buck's. Gosh he looked burly and in need of the run. But he won with so much ease today he will come on in leaps and bounds after today's effort. If you can call it an effort. He won in a canter and was never asked a serious question at all. Roll on his next run and a bit more of a test for a horse that should take all the beating in next year's World Hurdle.
Ooh end of November and beginning of December. I love this time of year because this is when it gets serious for National Hunt trainers and you start to see some of the serious potential candidates for next year's jumping festivals of Cheltenham and Aintree.
Roll on the winter. If today's racing was anything to go by, we have some exciting days ahead both with the Nicholls's horses and others
Brilliant horse! Only the second horse to twin two Hennessy's - the other being Arkle. I too prefer him to Kauto Star. Didn't think he set the world alight on his run last week.
Fantastic run by Denman. I have always thought he is a more natural jumper than Kauto Star, who undoutedly has learned to jump well, but Denman just pricks his ears and adjusts his stride to meet the fence.
Well done Ruby, you rode a great race.
Denman is one of the all time greats! I much prefer him to Kauto Star - I honestly believe he would have walked all over KS in the CGC if he hadn't had all his health problems. Fingers crossed for next year.
I was at Newbury last Saturday, the buzz around the parade ring before the race was electric. He really is a boat of a horse, not the prettiest horse in the world but handsome is as handsome does. He is definitely one of the toughest I've ever seen, and the most genuine.I'd give him house room any day.
As he came up to the final fence it was academic, and he won well, under a super ride from Ruby Walsh,....... roll on the Cheltenham festival.
