dent in my yearlings side/ribcage

Hi i am looking for advice please if anyone can help me... i bought a cob yearling and after a couple of days when i groomed him i noticed he has two dents running along his rib cage... as he is growing it doesnt seem as noticeable...i am just worried if this is an old injury?birth injury? or some kind of defect and how it will affect him later on. if any1 can help its apreciated :)
 
Have you got a pic clouisa? Not sure what you mean by a dent. I'm guessing that if the dent is a thundering great hollow as big as a wok then your horse would probably be very ill! Do you just mean a small dent that you could make by pushing your thumb into a mousse? If so, that's called a Prophet's Thumbprint and is a) absolutely harmless and b) supposed to be lucky and show good breeding!

Need a good pic to be sure but it's probably from a kick (I have a dent in outside upper leg muscle from a kick 30 years ago - never caused me any problem after the first two weeks!)
 
Hi thankyou for your replays lol it is more like u run your hand along and it curves in and out like the size of a hoof mark so yeah could well be a kick .. its one of the last ribs and its dented in two areas ... i could try and get a picture but tbh its not that easy to see in pictures more so when close up grooming and feeling if you know what i mean....he is such a laid back chap i just worried it will affect him x
 
Definitely sounds like a kick - can you press on and around the dents without him showing a reaction? If so, then I'd forget about them. As he fills out they should become less noticeable. If there's any discomfort on or around the dents, then get your vet to have a look next time he's handy. (thre's always the possibility of a cracked rib.)
 
there is no pain at all as i have prodded around ... yeah i thought about maybe a cracked rib :/ i have my vet coming on thursday so will get her to take a look. I can find very little info on cracked ribs on the internet ...thanks for ur help :D
 
Hi just to let you all know my vet thinks a rib is missing and he was born like this... he doeant expect that it will cause any problems to his future :D
