Dentastix and ADHD!

I have been having problems for a while now with my rottie Bailey (just aged 3). I won't bore you all with the details but needless to say he has been a little demon (I say little guardedly as he is the height of a St Bernard!) anyway, I have had him from 8 weeks old and knew deep down he was not aggressive,but that something was driving his behaviours.

I started looking at his diet, he has James Wellbeloved and does seem ok on that, as do the other 2. So I started by changing their "treats".

Each morning they had a dentastix (and sometimes one or two more through the day too if I had run out of chicken etc for their kongs). I stopped giving them to all the dogs 2 weeks ago and the change in Bailey is amazing to say the least!!!

He is polite and well mannered again, not leaping at my son (he seemed to think he had to protect me everytime he came into the room) and is not ADHD dog anymore!

Has anyone else experienced issues with dentastix? I have to say the little lab puppy has also been better since off them - though she only ever had one a day. Can't tell with Jazmine my 7 year old as she is so laid back anyway you wouldn't notice.

Would be really interested to hear though.

Mine have a daily Dentastix since hubby bought a box load of them from Costco!! I have 2 rotties and a rr. They are fairly hyper anyway so I don't think there has been any noticable difference.
 
are they the proper pedigree ones or similar type ones? Would be useful to know as mine have had pets at home own brand previously so know there are a lot on the market
 
Could be coincidence but one way to tell would be to reintroduce the dentastix and see if your dog's behaviour reverts.

I do think there could be certain ingredients in these flavoured snacks that can upset some dogs though, as none of my dogs have been able to tolerate Pedigree gravy bones, they make them urinary incontinent! Something must irritate the bladder.
 
Mine don't really get any commercial treats, they get a bone once in a while but that is it. When I am food-treating them in training they get chicken, cheese, chorizo or liver, pate and tuna as an end reward for tracking.

I don't like all the colours etc that you get in commercial treats - I won a packet of treats in a raffle the other day and they were red, green etc, something about that doesn't sit well with me.
 
I do wonder if it is a particular allergy of his. I am just shocked if his previous behaviour is down to these. I have had him since a puppy and he was the best puppy I had then suddenly at 13 months turned gobby! He never even mouthed as a pup...to have him back as he was now, is wonderful so will be happy with that
