just wanting some info and any recomendations for good dentists in the Yorkshire area..

we do have a dentist that comes and does all the horses on the yard and last time they came i was lucky enough to have just had mine done by the vet, as i really wasnt impressed at all, took over 45minutes to do one poor horse who is usually a saint to do and by the end was sweating and clearly feeling very uncomfortable throwing himself around the stable, so having seen this have decided i defo do not want this individual to do mine especially as will be my 4 year olds first time having it done with me (not sure if had done before i got her) and dont want her traumatising like this poor other horse.

so im wondering if anyone can recommend anyone good and what sort of prices you would expect to pay?? ive had quotes from £20 up to £70 so whats the norm??

Thank you in advance :)

Prices really vary between dentists, but tbh I'd be a bit wary of the ones that are very cheap; if they're trained correctly, buying and maintaining decent equipment, plus spending the appropriate amount of time doing the job then I can't imagine that many of them can do the job without charging a reasonable amount.

In the end you want someone who is fully qualified to do the job, so you want a BAEDt or WWAED qualified dentist (or at the very least you need to know that they are training towards these qualifications). It's the only way to ensure that they are properly trained and insured to do the job. That or they need to be a vet.

Here are the lists of the current members of both:

Paul Waudby is brilliant and covers Yorkshire although I'm not sure what parts, he is £40 per horse and is absolutely brilliant with them. He's done horses on our yard no problem that usually need sedation, really good horseman.

thats great to know might look him up, i would always make sure are fully trained, lower prices seem to be from when they are in the area which mean slotting in with their timetable. any other suggestions??

Defo another vote for Paul, Vet came to do mine, sedated him because he put his head in the air once and he was in a rush. Needless to say unimppressed. Paul came and he spent a few mins just standing with my boy, and did him no problem. Very impressed.

Depends where in Yorkshire you are but I have Sharon Cooper from near Grimsby and really rate her. Patient, explains what she is doing and is really thorough. Think she was around £40 last time.

No suggestions as for who to use as I'm miles away from you and my dentist is even further away. But had mine done today and it was £35, he traveled just over an hour did 4 horses at one yard then had 3 to do at another before going home. Is fab with the horses, infact says the owners make it worse than the horses do ;), mine was a donkey all the way through then decided to be an eejiot and spook at the dentist as he went to take the gag off so we both laughed at him and told him to stop being stupid. He takes about 15-20 mins a horse and then fills out a form to show you whats been done and asks if you have had any issues before he starts work.

I use Terry McGuinness, he's East Yorkshire, don't know what area he covers. He charged me £40 not sure if he charges travel as I am only a few miles from him.

He's very good and extremely patient.
