dentist peeps.....swollen behind jaw?

Would a 22 month old be cutting teeth that would cause swellings behind her jaw (looks like swollen glands)?

These swellings have been up and down over the weekend, she doesn't have a runny nose, normal temp, breathing okay, eating normally, not quidding & generally normal in every other way. Nothing has changed in her environment either.

I will be calling the vet in the morning but it was the only thing I could think of that may be causing them.

Any advice appreciated as it has really got me stumped.

I don't know about teething but lots of the horses at my yard have this problem when the first shoots & grass start to come. If they're taken off the grass or have very restricted access the problem disappears & the vet said it's nothing to worry about.

That's interesting as the swellings go down overnight when she's in but after she's been out through the day, she is swollen again. I've not heard of that before but it would make sense.

It's not happened to any of the others which is why I thought it was due to her teething.

Had exactly the same problem with my mare the last week & this weekend - never had it before! Called my vet & he says its nothing to worry about & its just the grass coming through & her chewing. She looks like she got huge hamster cheeks when I bring her in at night but it goes by the morning. Speak to your vet but I am sure he/she will tell you not to worry.

If they are on both sides they could just be the saliva glands, my mare gets them certain times of year after grazing but they go down after a few hours.

Don't know enough to comment on whether it could be a teething problem - sorry !

Sound like what I've always referred to as grass glands. Both my horses get them in spring and autumn. If they go down overnight and aren't tender I wouldn't worry.

Yes it does sound like grass glands - my horse moved fields yesterday and he came in looking like a hamster!

Yep, Henry gets grass glands, too. I was crapping my pants when I first saw them years ago - I thought he had strangles at the time!

Thanks everyone - it really had me puzzled, never experienced this before. No tenderness or difference in her in any other way apart from the "hamster"effect!

Still waiting for vet to ring back as I explained it was non-emergency but comforted to know it's not only her!
