Several horses in the herd have lice, and now my boy has starting scratching!
He is allergic to a lot of chemical products/fly sprays.
Can anyone recommend a product that will work, but isn’t deosect, as it’s highly likely he will react to it!

A question for your vet, there are plenty of cattle pour on treatments but if he is prone to react, I think your vet needs to advise. I had one react to deosect and it was a violent experience.

He might be ok with Deosect. My old mare was allergic to a few fly sprays and creams, but weirdly fine with Deosect. I used a cream once that said it was gentle (so didn't bother patch testing 🙄) and she came up in huge welts.

Before I discovered Deosect I had success using an insecticidal shampoo (I think it was the dermoline one) followed by lots of louse powder once dry. I kept topping up with the powder and then repeated the bath and powder 2 weeks later.

I've had someone recommend Hedgewitch to me, although before bothering with that I would bath in dermoline and smother in louse powder.

Benzyl benzoate lotion will kill lice (it is toxic to the nervous system). I make up my own, but for a one-off/two time treatment (BB is effective on eggs, too), I would spot test using a ready made lotion before two treatments spaced to allow for hatching of any eggs you might miss.
