deosect for lice

Hi

I am wondering if anyone can help me, my pony has currently caught lice off a colt that was moved down to our yard, I have ordered deosect and know the dosage but dont no which would be the best and most effective way of applying this as I have never used it.

i dilute it as to instructions in a plant sprayer bottle.apply along mane, back and top of tail,wear gloves and rub it into coat.repeat a week later.you see the dead ones the next day.
hold the bottle near the horse and dont breath it in,its v.strong.

Slightly OT.....I have bought deosect as a fly repellant this year, but am slightly concerned about putting the recommended 1/2 litre over each horse in case they have some kind of reaction!? Has anyone's horse experienced any bad reaction when using it??
