Deposit... how much, how long?

I usually ask for 10%, will hold until vetted and expect that to be within one week, the horse should then be collected as soon as possible after vetting as it then really becomes the buyers liability if something goes wrong.
There are other ways of selling but it can leave the seller at a disadvantage even if a deposit is paid if the horse gets injured and cannot be vetted the deposit would need to be returned. The insurance can also be an issue as to who is insuring, a horse cannot be covered by 2 companies at the same time.

Yer i say 10% deposit and held till vetting. And would expect the vetting to be done pretty quick. You can usually get a vetting within 48 hours of making a decision if not a weekend and again, i would want pick up within 48 hours max as i wouldnt want the horse hanging around for fear of injury. Usually you have an idea of transport and livery sorted if your actively looking for a horse. Well i do anyway. I would not though expect it to go that quick untill the buyer has tried out as much as they like and made the decision.

Ditto 10% deposit is pretty much the normal to hold until vetting although actually I only paid 5% with the last one I brought (but in cash), tried on the Saturday, vetted Wednesday, delivered Saturday :)
