My little JRT is 2 years old. My mum lives abroad and when she came home she took Monty with her to visit family in the Lake District and he came home at the weekend and is just not himself.

We unfortunatly had to have our old dog Basil put down around the same time as this and although the old dog didn't play or do much really, he was company for Monty.

do you think he is depressed and sad that Basil isn't here anymore or that he is missing my cousin (who constantly plays with him) or missing the beach. Or all of that.

He is walked in the morning for a good hour and really does enjoy that but when we get home he just seems sad. I got him a teddy (he loves teddy's) and he played with that last night but again just wasn't himself. He is checked on and let out during the day and then when i get home from work he comes to the yard with me for a good 2 hours.

I am thinking of getting another rescue JR about 2 years old in the hope he just needs a buddy.

What are peoples views....

Yeah get the little chap a friend! He obviously enjoys being played with and likes company so another dog, chosen carefully, should perk him up no end.

I would say he is depressed. Out rottie has been lifeless for weeks/months since we lost our Dobbie and she only springs to life for her walks. It is so sad to see and we keep getting our friends to bring their dogs round to perk her up.

We are not in a position to get another dog as we are moving house and downsizing, if you can get a little friend for your dog I am sure that is the cure.
