Hi,

I own & run an equine business.

and im also a judge/riding instructor/wife etc.

I own 4 horses (1 loaned out) and 3 dogs and im busy.

I have my horses on livery (i was for years on my own place but got bored being alone)
so last year moved to a livery yard. We have since then been on 3 yards, and im currently at teh yard i was on as a child - i like it there - even though it is drastically run down , and no arena. I thought its winter, i wont need an arena ill just hack at weekends - but actually i do.

Th emud is bad (i know it is every where) but again i feel like all im doing is walking through med, and smell (the yard smells?) and mucking out/bringing in. I manged the first time in 3 weeks to have a "small hack out on sunday" with the hubby.

Im paying £110 per week for part livery for 3 horses (2 ridden horses and 1 foal) and not getting anything back from it.

my husband dosnt like the yard because its dirty (he has OCD and insists on "clean" places)
so he dosnt put in the time like he did. So having to do 3 horses and 3 dogs, and run a house and a new business is hard work........

Im working hard and can pay a bit extra for a better yard...... but im not sure if it would be a good move (again) we are also looking for our own yard/land but not having any luck , nore do i think i have time tbh.

i feel like putting the foal out at grass for a few months, and finding an all singing, all dancing yard that i feel like im getting the full benefits for my horses - and money.

Ive found one that does full livery 5 days a week and all stuff inc for £60 per horse, i know thats good price but not sure if i want to move .....again!!!! and in summer i like my horses to live out for a bit, and im not paying £60pw to live out! and they dont offer the option of cheaper livery in summer

so im feeling down, about everything!!!

bloody winter

The daffodils and snowdrops are coming through, spring will soon be here.

Sounds like the plan to move your youngster somewhere cheaper may be a good one to take some pressure off financially and maybe time wise if he lives out close by. Could you also put one of the others out with the youngster at grass for a few weeks/ months until the weather improves? Little holiday for the horse, again maybe help financially a bit and could possibly go towards part livery (if it's available?) for that horse so you have more time to ride?

Just a few suggestions, sorry im not much use. The nights are getting lighter though, so you will soon be able to hack out in the evening, even just for a quick spin. :)

Even if you move it'll still be muddy although you may find somewhere with a schooling area for you are there any places near by you at the minute that have arenas to rent? Try free advertising like on preloved or summat for places near you to rent there maybe summat there even if you just go have and have a look at the place at least you know what your options will be. If it helps any the place im at is well muddy too, sometimes my pony has to drag me out cuz i get stuck!!!

Cant wait for summer too!!!!

Oh dear :(. Winter is such a hard time we all get down. It's been a very hard year this year with the snow and bad weather. But we are out of the worst of it and the clocks change next month :).
I've found it hard this winter too I have no school either so was only able to hack at weekends or when I was on late shifts. I got down about it too, my horse is mis behaving, the woman I share field with is driving me up the wall and I have no money  so I know how u feel.
Are u happy at the yard? It mite not be the smartest yard in the world but if you and the horses are settled there it doesn't matter? My happiest years with my horse were at a run down, mud bath of a yard lol.
If you are not happy then move and don't worry the horses will soon settle down. Can they all live out at grass through the summer? Can u get a sharer to help with the riding/work/costs?
Keep your chin up x
