Due to unforeseen financial difficulties I am having to part with my beloved 3.5t lorry. A very smart k reg Renault Master coachbuilt.

It has been on preloved and ebay for 2 weeks now and i have only had one viewing.

The family that cam to view said no because they wanted power steering but then never asked me beforehand if it had power steering or not.

I obviously want to sell the lorry as soon as possible (if family want any xmas presents) but dont want to give it away for silly money.

I have already dropped the price by £550 and the price it is at now is actually less than the price I paid plus the money i have spent on it.

Any tips on other places to advertise and to get people interested??

Not being nasty and i understand you want to do the best for your family but selling under what it owes you just to buy presents !!!! I would think long and hard could you find some eveing or part time work in the run up to christmas or sell a good load of unwanted stuff on ebay??
or just say money is tight it doesnt mean i dont love you and enjoy the frienship and company of family without aload of tat to unrap and be discarded hours later.....

I have just brought a 3.5t lorry. The key issue is payload esp on a slightly older one, have you put that in the advert?

Most people will want to look after Christmas IMHO.

I have already sold loads of stuff on ebay but i have nothing left to sell now other than my lorry.

I already work full time 8-4pm every week day and my health dictates that i cannot work any more hours.

I am not selling the lorry just to buy presents but selling it will mean can buy them nicer presents. The rest of the money is to pay of a small loan, put some towards a second hand trailer and the rest as a bank 'cushion' for emergencies.

Having just done a quick eBay search I am guessing yours is the maroon one with 130k on clock

First thing I noticed there are 3 almost te same but yours is over 1k more than the next cheapest and with a lot more miles

Bottom line is folk just ain't got the money and the ones that have are buying gear a lot newer than this

It is just that if a potential seller could not tell me the payload I would not go and look at the lorry.

Got to agree, sorry. :o

Also, surely you'd need insurance to take it out for a drive to show prospective buyers.

Unfortunately vehicles are one of the quickest ways to lose money. A brand new one drops in value as soon as you drive it out of the showroom. Therefore it's rather a sad fact that you will have to sell it for less than it owes you.

I should think that the month before Christmas is also a bad time to sell. Sorry. Good luck with your sale.

You want top dollar for it, would it really be too much effort to clean the inside of it and make an attempt to make it look worth that money?

I'd also add it's worth what someone would pay for it. The last person to buy it was you. You paid what you thought it was worth to you. Because you have had maintenance bills that does not mean it is worth what it cost you plus, essentially, running costs. That's just what they are, running costs. Try marketing it at what it cost you to buy and see if it shifts.

I am currently looking for a lorry and want to know the payload and the horse area dimensions before I even consider going to look.

Also, regarding the insurance- people will need to drive it when they come to see it so it must be road legal.

I have been checking eBay regularly looking to see what 3.5 tonners are going for as am hoping to buy one next spring/summer.

I did notice yours as the inside, partitions etc look very nice, some can be a little big standard, also like the barn doors & half door at back but 2 problems for me.

No info on payload, thus is first th

Stupid phone!

....first thing I look for, best thing would be insure as shirt a time as possible and take to weigh bridge. Also state what was in lorry when weighed, ie, skinny driver & half tank of fuel/chubby driver & full tank of fuel etc.

Second is that it doesn't have a rear emergency exit & extra wide back door. Has been a lot of stories about horses getting caught in the breaching bar & having to be cut out etc. Won't worry some people, & nothing u can do about it but it is a possibility as to why it isn't selling.

Good luck, it is a very nice lorry :D

I am sorry that you are having tonsell your lorry.
you don't say long you have had it I don't understand why you would expect to get what you paid for it you never get your money back selling 2nd hand vehicles because you have had the use of the vehicle and put mileage on it.
The market is not good at the moment and it won't sell at more than the market rate.
I also would never even consider going to see something not insured.

I did a preliminary clean of the inside of it but it looks much better in person, i have since given it a good wash down. However it was hard to make it sparkle on such a dull day as it was when i took photos

I have only had the lorry 6 months so I dont expect it to have depreciated in value in that sort a time, especially as i have probably only put about 15 miles on it since i have had it!

The problem with insurance is that simply cannot afford it. That is why i am selling it. renewal came through, money wasnt available to pay it, reality check and realised it couldnt afford to run a car and a lorry.

I toohave looked on ebay and the only other lorries similar to mine are onyl cheaper because they are on bidding auctions that have got several days left to go so i bet you the prices will climb above mine.
I have looked on ALOT of horsebox websites etc and for a second hand vehicle, age and design as mine, my price is reasonable to low.

This is a genuinely heartbreaking sale as i LOVE this little lorry. But I have to be realistic and admit i made a mistake buying it as I can't actually afford its running costs.

Insure it and pay for the insurance monthly. You may only need a couple of months insurance cover. And I am afraid of course the value has dropped since you bought it 6 months ago. The value of vehicles drops every time they change hands.

It is only the rare few exotica that increase in value.

Isn't it a leagl requirement to keep your vehicles insured now even if they are not on the road, have a look at the link below.

I would want to be driven round in the lorry I was viewing TBH and did on the 3 I went to see.

The main problem apart from the insurance for me is the price and gross weight. Unfortunatley I would never buy and 3.5tn when you can get 7.490 plated tonners, still under the gross weight of new driver hours regulations but with bigger payloads for less money. Plus you bought this lorry 6 months ago you say, going into the summer season, its a known fact that lorries will sell better going into the summer season when people are wanting to get out and about than going into the winter season, as we are now that will have a big impact on the interest and price you get.

get it insured again and lower your price is all I can suggest

It's down to supply and demand. You bought it 6 months ago when such vehicles are in high use, and therefore demand premuim prices. At this time of year, less use and less money about, ie prices drop. Very few horseboxes increase in value unless you have bought a basket case and done it up, and even then you are unlikely to recurpurate all of the costs. You should insure it so it can be taxed. This means someone can take it back home straight away and test drive etc.

My 3.5ton cost less than £20 a month to insure. I think you either have a financial problem greater than the lorry or you are being had by the insurance!! How much is it?

I was with anthony d evans and i could only pay in 3 lump sums, paying monthly wasnt an option.

I hadnt thought to look at other insurers, so i may be able to get something with pay monthly....

However.....the lorry still has to go.....as yes, the financial problem IS greater than just the lorry....

If it isn't insured it can't be driven and if a potential buyer cannot drive it I suspect they will not buy!!

Sadly vehicles depreciate in value from the second you buy them. You will be very, very lucky if you are able to recoup the purchase price, let alone the purchase price plus maintenance costs. Good luck.
