Hi I'm on the hunt for a new fly rug. I've bought breeches from DH this year and really love them so wonder if the fly rugs are any good (plus they are on offer)

Has anyone bought one? What are they like on the shoulder?
 
I've bought one. Very tight on my boy but he's a warmblood with high wither. It's rubbed the hair. I've put his old torn gallop one back on. Shame was good price offer.
 
Didnt fit my TB type either :( Funny as the same rug fits the similar built horse in the next stable brill. The rug was massive in length, (his usual size), ultra long neck and tight on the shoulder :(
 
The old style was awful. Really tight around the neck and shoulders and baggy under the belly. But I think they've corrected this (although there are still some of the old style on sale). I hope it's been rectified because I love their rugs usually and I have just ordered one of their hybrid rugs as half price. I have been wanting a waterproof fly rug for years but the price has put me off. I bought my mare a zebra print rhinegold rug last year and it's too tight around the shoulder so pretty useless.
 
Thanks for the replies. I think I will give it a miss then. I have a TB but he has a large shoulder so struggling to find something suitable.
 
I got one for B and it fit well enough. But they are not durable at all! He wore it for 2 weeks and the neck is shredded to bits and missing some straps! He's not a rug wrecker, but is playful. All his other rugs stand up well to a bit of rough and tumble, but this one is now in bits.

I'm not too sad as it was cheap, but now on the search for somthing much tougher!
 
I would save your money, and pay a little extra for a better quality rug.
With brands such as DH and Rhinegold, the old adage buy cheap, buy twice would apply!
 
I have one, purchased this year in the sale. I'm very pleased with it, has lasted longer than I though to say all paddocks have a lot of trees in, doesn't seem to be rubbin mane out (touch wood) and not rubbing so far, hes had it about a month and on most of the time.

Mines as 16hh Gelderlander so a long high neck

hmmm, while I agree about Rhinegold I have had a couple of decent TO rugs from DH over the years-the last 70g one is a really good rug.

However, their old style fly rugs were horrid, heavy sweaty material and its hard to know what they were designed for-certainly nothing with any kid of a neck. I'd rather buy a SH Rambo or WB.
 
I have never had a rhinegold rug 'fit' a horse bar one, which sol, which has the most freakish conformation! You need a horse with a very narrow shoulder, long body and no bum!

I agree. I love their turnout rugs and they have lasted me years. I always make sure I get the 1200 denier ones though. I also find the turnout rugs are a little on the small side so I buy a size up.
 
I agree the old ones were awful crappy things. I usually buy Rambo protectors but am really tempted by Derby House at the minute.
Friend recently bought the one with the red waterproof panel over the back and its really nice! Her horse is TB x I am being tempted by the fact the seam isn't directly on the wither which is a huge problem for my horse and his shark wither!
The mesh is very different to the old Derby House sheets
 
I've had turnout rugs from DH and love them they fit fab. I know the fly rugs are cheap but the original RRP wasn't so wondered if they would be a good bargain but seems very hit and miss :(
 
Is everyone here talking about the standard fly rugs or the new elite ones? I'm tempted by the elite as they look almost identical in the pictures to the premier equine bug buster but with no branding and I really rated that rug! Any reviews would be welcome :)
 
My DH fly rugs are on their 3rd or 4th summer and are still going strong, best fitting fly rugs I've had and would 100% buy more, i think the only casualty has been a piece of velcro which was easily stitched back on.
 
I bought one a couple of years ago. God knows what shape horse it was supposed to fit, I had to add extender straps to the chest and remove about a foot of straps from the belly!
