Has anyone got any views on the Derby House rug range? I am just about to do my rug order for the winter and they look quite nice but I was wondering about the quality as they are pretty cheap.

Thanks!

I've got three, two stable rugs and a m/w turnout combo x All have lasted about 3 years so far and were all about £40 each, think the t/o was reduced from £70. They have fit both my warmblood mare and my gangly tbxid perfectly, they havent slipped or had any issues. If i am picky, on the turnout the leg straps buckle adusts itself sometimes but has only done this recently and doesnt effect my horse of the rug, i guess i could put a stitch in it to keep it in the same place if i needed to x I'd definately buy another x If you look in there new season deals they have some lovely rugs which are reduced x Nearly bought one yesterday.....might get it today!! decisions, decisions!! x

I have two DH medium combo turnouts, both bought for less than £40. They fit my chunky cob really well and have lasted well. I really like them and am looking for a lightweight combo on offer.

Ah this is good news! I have in my 'basket' so far two turnout rugs, 1 x 100g and 1 x 200g. My only problem now is that they don't seem to do a no fill turnout sheet!

Would you say that the rugs are true to size?

I only have on DH rug - a medium turnout which I got last year. Very happy with quality of fabric (her rugs were getting ripped by horses she was turned out with but no problems with this one). My only criticism is that the clips don't appear to be very good quality - 2 of them snapped within 48 hours but that was easy to rectify with some replacements and a needle and thread! Sizing seemed fine for my mare. Would definitely consider getting other rugs from DH.

I like their rugs when sold cheaply, but the last 2 I bought were lightweights and sized very big, a 5'9 is generous of my chunky haflinger who usually wears 6'.

I have a standard neck no fill turnout and the same but a combo version and they are very waterproof, they don't leak at all. I also have a MW/HW turnout combo which fits well and a fleece which is lovely and soft.

I got the standard no fill, fleece and MW/HW combo for the bargain price of £50 a few years ago and then bought the combo no fill for £35 a few months ago :)

Echo above they fit well and are good value. trigger clips are a bit flimsy so i bought a pack of strong ones off ebay nice and cheap and replaced the originals. My boy is a destroyer of rugs and both his DH rugs have beaten him!!!

Agree with everything said above!

The trigger clips on the front DO snap easily, but either buy some stronger ones or I found i could just loop the now loose end back through where the trigger clip would normally attach, then pull it back on its self and fasten it through the buckle used the adjust the front.

I bought my M/W and his no fill sheet in a bit of a hurry as he was an unexpected arrival but theyve both lasted very well!

I would say though that is sheet is more shower proof then actualy waterproof

Thanks everyone! I have just placed my order - one of the rugs is new Autumn 2012 edition so I wont get that for a few week, but I'm hoping they part ship the order for me :)

I think my horse has more clothes than me :)

Thanks again for your help!

I will go against the grain here and say mine was awful, I wouldn't recommend.
Have heard others say the same.

I have six DH turnout rugs. I always buy the 1200 denier though as they are tougher. Except for the 100g fill which I don't think they do in 1200. I love them but find I have to buy a size bigger than usual in the turnouts.

I find them great quality for the money but theyr not deep enough for my 17.3hh WB, he's not a chunky type either. I have the 7ft MW standard neck turnout for him. It's light blue and if I remember correctly a special edition.

Oh yeh and one of the front clips completely sheared in half after about 6 uses. It left really sharp edges which I wasn't happy at all about but one phone call and they sent me a replacement clip which was easy to replace.

I've had the smaller sizes for little ponies, really like them. Not sure if its the same for larger sizes, but I find they aren't ridiculously large round the chest in 4'3- 4'9 like a lot are, & are a nice fit depth wise, & x surcingles don't need shortening. Friends chunky cob is usually 5'9, but has a 6' from dh as otherwise chest too small. So probably true to size for finer or average build horses.

I have 4 dh rugs for my 13.2hh nf the oldest is. A medium combo turnout that has lasted 4 years, just need the surcingle clips replaced for this year. This summer I bought the cow print light weight turnout and it's been fab. Has kept pony dry through all the torrential rain this week

I have a medium weight combo I got for around £30 a year ago but found the neck to be really short and tight and let's the wind move up it when she puts her head down to graze. Also the clips on the front broke near enough straight away so we have to use the buckles now.
I also have a waffle cooler combo which is also tight on the neck and really pulls back on the shoulder.
I also have a blue fleece without neck which isn't bad.

They're okay. I'd rather have Weathabeeta but I got a two for one deal on Derby House, so hey ho. They were cheap. The rain sheet leaks when it's pouring rain and I have to replace the straps on the winter rugs after every season and as people have said, the trigger snaps break.

The good news... due to said two for one deal, I have an extra Derby House turnout rug (it's either 1000 or 1200 fill) that I've appropriated from my horse and now it lives with my camping gear. It makes the best tent floor liner, ever. I hate how tent floors get cold and damp with condensation, and laying the rug waterproof side down on the tent floor keeps the condensation at bay, gives you extra insulation and a nice, soft, and cozy tent floor. I recommend it. My horse is never getting that rug back.

I see you have placed your order already anyway, but just to firmly underline what one or two others have said - decent rugs for the cost, good fit for chunky cobs BUT the fixings are terrible quality - I have three DH rugs of differing weights and virtually every clip has broken. I emailed DH and they sent me a pack of new ones. I will use them but am guessing they will be the same quality. Derby House - listen to customers and change your clips!!

I agree regarding the clips. The front ones have nearly all snapped. I bought 10 new ones on ebay and have therefore replaced them all. I think that the clips are designed to give under pressure for safety reasons, but these are a little too fragile!

I've found they come up a bit small, but good value for money. I've got a couple I use for spares. Had to send one back when both front clips broke within a few days of use!

Have they stopped making the cow print rugs? I couldn't see them anywhere, my horse is probably thanking his lucky stars!

I ended up getting a DH medium weight turnout and cotton sheet, and a WB no fill waterproof. He will prob spend most of his time in the no fill one (we live in Spain) but I think I will ask them to send me some replacement clips with my order anyway.

Thanks everyone, top advice!

they have horrible leg straps, the clips always break and they not a great fit.

size is quite small.

Personally id not waste my money on them again
