Well lots of us availed of their rug sale to stock up for winter...

What do we all think?

I got the mares LW rugs out tonight as the weather isn't great here, and I was quite impressed. Fittings seem good quality, and I like the elastic leg straps. Size seems quite 'true', the only improvement I'd make would be to come a little higher round the chest...

Hope I'm still as pleased with them in a few weeks..

Bought a combo lightweight in their sale a couple weeks ago, came quickly so pleased with that. Rug itself feels like it is made out of plastic bags and leaks along the side seams. Other than that it fits nicely. Fittings and buckles feel very cheap.

The majority of my rugs have come from them over the past couple of years and none have leaked, they are as good as my Rhino/Weatherbeeta/PE rugs and are a fraction of the price!

Iwantakitten - I would contact them.

Thanks fornema, I wasn't sure if I could be bothered as it was so cheap, I wasn't expecting much and they don't have a great track record with customer service. Maybe I will pop them an email and see what happens.

Oh no I'd definitely contact them too... Leaking isn't good.

I thought the fittings seemed quite solid. Similar to the ruggles rugs fittings..

Not quite the PE solidness admittedly, but I didn't want to pay over £100 for a summer rug (don't mind for heavyweights).

I've just had a quick look on their website and they don't seem to have any lightweights in stock at the moment, so I'd be looking at a refund I expect although I'd happily trade it for a pair of their denim breeches. I do love their breeches!

It seems to leak around the stitching where the darts are across the quarters and where the attachments for leg straps and surcingles attach so perhaps I was just unlucky. My old horse had the same rug in a different colour and it was fantastic. He wore it the whole of a mild wet winter and was dry as a bone.

I bought 2 turnouts, one patterned & one plain, around 3 years ago. When they arrived, the patterned one looked & felt like it was poorer quality. However neither ripped or leaked & I would buy these again.

I've one plain and one cow print, and possibly the cowprint one was a little see through, but then I've never had a white turnout rug before so nothing to compare to..

I've used their rugs for a while and can't complain at them, they do as good a job as any of the other rugs and my eyes water a lot less if it only lasts a week! I've had some that are still going after a couple of years though.

Has anyone had any of their Elite turnouts? I really wanted to try them to compare them to the PE etc. but my cheap and cheerful Derby House ones were still going strong so I couldn't warrant it!

I've had a few from them, fly rug, lw turnout, mw turnout and l/mw stable rug and I love them. Good value for money and fit my fell pony really well. The stable rug is one from their premium range (and was still fairly cheap) and always gets comments for how nice it is. :)

Non of my bargain DH rugs have leaked Iwantakitten, so I'd contact them. My WB has had two for 4 years now. A Few repairs but still going strong. Sadly they're not robust enough for little legs as he has to have 100 denier plus.

I love them for my cob, especially the 1200 denier plus ones, the 600 deniers do rip easily if you've got a rough player or a scratcher.
I have found them all very waterproof and surprisingly durable for the price.

I wouldn't personally but the cheaper 600d turnouts but I do have one of the 40g (I think) turnouts which is from the premier range or whatever they call it and it's fab.
Also have a really nice fly rug. In fact bar the buckles and branding it's exactly the same as my other Premier equine super lite sheet!

My medium and heavy weight DH turnouts did seven or eight winters in the rainy Pennines without a leak or problem. The ones I bought last year were great too. The buckles and clips were cheaper, but nothing broke. I can't bring myself to buy more expensive ones when these are so good.

Seems everyone is very happy with theirs then :)

Ours survived their first night intact even though the cow bag mares went through the electric tape, and as we've no barbed wire and they don't bite each other, fingers crossed they last a while...

I've had a few of their turnouts and have mixed feelings. The fit overall is good except with the neck covers. Have 2 combi rugs and neck is too small on both, have to put a chest expander on the neck cover to get it to fit. And another high withered turnout I washed and all the filling ended up in one big lump and had to bin it. Never had that problem washing rugs before. But for the price I'd still consider buying a standard neck turnout, fleece etc

Edit: oh! and they have elastic leg straps on the turnouts which I personally don't like.

I thought the elastic legs straps seemed a good idea? What are the disadvantages? Do they stretch over time?

Fiona

They definitely do stretch over time. They are ok on light weight rugs but on heavy winter rugs the elastic isn't strong enough to stop the rug sliding to one side, they just stretch with the weight of it. I normally swap them for regular web leg straps on my winter rugs

I got the 40g elite in their sale the other week.

Im.sure its 1600d outer and 40g lining. Its actuallu a really impressive rug for £20- the only difference i can tell between this and my premier equine is the cut, its shorter at the front but i actually prefer it!

I think, as with most rug brands, it's down to the denier of the fabric whether it's going to be any good!

The Derby House rugs I've bought have been fantastic, but I've only ever bought the 1680d ones.

Most of my horse's wardrobes are made up of Derby House rugs and have not had a problem with any of them. I think most of them are the 600d ones too.

They fit my two well, no rubs or leaks and are robust (mine do not play rough, but my mare does try to take chunks out of my gelding at times!).

I bought a m/w turn out combo from them about six years ago for £30. I've replaced one front clip and had it washed/proofed every other year and it's been great. The filling has shifted about a bit right above her bum but it still works fine and has never leaked. Nowt wrong with DH!
