I posted a couple of weeks ago that the shop was now miniscule, with the toy store and farm shop now occupying most of the space.

Nipped in today, and the Derby House section is now closed.

I asked in the Farm shop, and been told that the staff have been made redundant.

Very sad :-(

ive been thinking this would happen for some time now, working for what i do (which i cant go too much in to) its showing all the signs for a company to liquidate or go in to administration! its a real shame as i love their rugs, but i will admit they do make it difficult to get their items, post can take for ever (if it arrives) and they over charge for alot of their rugs, as some times say amigo rugs can be cheaper! (mine certainy were) and for a money minded horse owner we just wont go out and spend that much for it to get snagged, unfortunatly my boy did more than just snag my rug it wasnt really much of a rug once he was finished with it lmao!

That does feel rather sad.

I remember the excitement (the smells! :D) of going to the Parbold shop when I was in my early teens, over forty years ago.

God I sound like a Werther's Originals advert!! :eek3:

Oh dear! He made a good job of destroying it then!

Apparently the mail order side is still operating from different premises, which doesn't really make sense... If they had stock, having it on the shelves for people to but would be nice!

Back in the day at Parbold, the mail order items where picked off the shelves and sent out....

LOL - I remember going there too, it was like the tardis!

The company director of Derby House, Nigel Cayzer, is also selling his large Kinpurnie estate, outside Dundee. Not only are people losing their jobs, they are also losing their homes. It is very sad indeed.

I popped in last week to try and get a hat for dd but they didn't have any small enough. Very sad.

For anyone in the area Fearn's Farm is excellent. I will be going there for dd's hat next year.

Overheads.

Very sad that some are losing homes and livelihoods. Rumours have been going around long enough to think maybe it wouldn't happen but there it is.

It is sad. I remember the old shop being good (although found it really cramped), but the new shop could have been really special too. I met some really unhelpful and uninterested sales assistants there though, and there were no trollies or anything. I remember trying to balance some huge items as I shopped, ended up borrowing a wheelbarrow from a display to carry it all.

I so considered changing my job for something that was advertised there a few years ago, glad I didn't! I guess its the way the world is going though, people are shopping online more.
