That looks stunning, what beautiful stables!

Re the tackroom - a friend has remote stables, no one on site. His tack room has a lobby to it that people break into first, now when they get in there they have another steel door to go through to get to the goodies, whilst the lobby fills up with smoke and strobe lights go off. Presumably the horses enjoy the disco! :D

Definitely have to visit Bert and Ernie (and you!) now to have a good nose! Will you still be doing the retirement / rehab livery too?

It's going to be really stunning, GG. I really love the shape of the stables and the angle of the doors. Are you going to put 'talk' bars in? I find this makes a significant difference to the contentment of stabled horses.

Oh how lucky are you but having read your blog & all the obvious hard work you have done, it seems very well deserved ! I have never heard of "wildcams" but would be very interested in knowing where you got them from - I too am about to fulfil a dream of having our ponies at home & would love to know they are safe & what they are getting up to.

How exciting! Being a rather sporadic HHO member I have missed all of this!! Will you be offering livery and is there a lovely house there for you to live in as well?

Looks lovely so far :)

Wow! Do you mind me asking if the concrete was extortionate? I would love to concrete my yard, it is already membrane then hardcore which has been down 10 years- do they just poor over the top of the hardcore? (assume they need to level it) . love the idea of the wildcams!

No idea. The whole project was done on a healthy but realistic budget, but I don't know the exact figures of anything as it's not been me paying it. Regarding concreting though, this will, as it's type 1 hardcore, break down to a be a very firm surface, it's already fine for shod horses to walk on...but yes, if we have it concreted in future, it can just go straight on.

*whistles jingle bells innocently* just one thing, did I get the right dvd????? It was the only one with that name and I got the impression you were rather fond of it so hope I got it right! :D

*mini festive hijack over :)*

Yes you did and I squealed when I opened it...thank you xxx

Love the angled doors. I'm not a fan of a lot of indoor stables for that exact reason that they have to turn in narrow spaces, but that's a great solution.

Yep, that was my main concern. Took a bit of figuring out regarding the design as the original pig bays were all on different height floors, so there was a lot of work removing excessive concrete.

It is lovely. Any would be nasty peoples would have to get past Superman first! ;)

He's being super cheeky at the moment! Can't go in there without being jumped on, lol :)

Wow, stunning BRIGHT indoor barn. That's taken some work. Is it for your own horses or a livery yard?

This barn will be for full/part liveries when the rest of the yard is fnished, but I'll also use it for day stabling for the retirement herd to come into for their trims/worming/checks.

You'll have to make sure everyone knows about the cameras. Don't want to inadvertently catch any nooky in the hay going on

Haha, good point!

What a fantastic idea. We have an initial system being done at the moment which should have anyone running at the first attempt, lol.

We'll keep a small herd here, but the numbers will go down from where they are currently.

We have the ability to if we ever need to, but for now we are sticking with this. I've found in the past that not all horses like that, so it's a possibility, but as the stables are so open anyway, it should work for all horses.

I got the wildcams from Aldi last year. They were only £60 each but you can do film and photo, film only, photo only or even timelapse.
We have them set to take 2 photo's them film 30 seconds when they are triggered. It's fab.

You can hook them up to a connection and use them as webcams as well, but we don't have a million miles of wiring to make that happen, lol!

Yes, full, part and competition livery (dressage). We already live on site in the farm bungalow so all good. I get to the fields through my back garden...it's bliss :)

I love those open sided barn stables. But I see no squirrel !?

The squirrel was an adoption present for my secret santa from the lovely elleskywalker :). So, no squirrel in the barn, but a very happy adopted red squirrel on Brownsea Island :)

I particularly like the way that the stable doors are 'angled'. It makes for such sense. With a one way in and out, then why shouldn't the doors be set to allow for easy access and exit? None at all, I'd say!

When I win the 'roll-over', and have a Stud Farm to match others, then that is exactly what I shall do! :wink3:

Concrete is expensive yes ours cost many thousands about £ 9 I think in our case but we had a soak away and drains with grills built in as well.. It is amazing how concrete albeit expensive makes a difference.................

That looks great! The design of the stables is very clever and I envy you the concrete. We are half way through the current project (never ending) and this time we've gone for cobble stones in the yard - they look very nice but are a nightmare to sweep.

Between your new yard OP and Farmer Chalk's horsebox build I am now feeling very jealous and a tad depressed. Must go and buy some lottery tickets. Please keep the updates coming

Wow, love the idea for the stables - my barn has a narrow walkway like yours originally and it's a bit of a pain if your horse overshoots and you have either to bend them in half, back them down the hall or open an empty stable to turn them!

Can I ask how the webcams work? Would love that for my liveries but as I don't live on site I think I would have to get wifi at the yard.. which wouldn't be a bad thing! :)

Yes, it will work with Wifi as the owner is putting in a yard office, so it will run from that. Quite easily done to be fair, but I can say that as it won't be me setting it up, lol.

George and Pie (mine and Dans horses) moved into the barn last night and are loving it in there. Doorways work really well so very pleased with them x
