My coloured gipsy cob gets little circular patches of dermatitis in hot sunny weather. The hair just vanishes to leave a small patch of bald pink skin, about the size of a 50p piece. No inflammation and not itchy. I'm not so much worried about the patches as I know it is quite common in coloured cobs, especially those with a lot of pink skin and white hair. Just wondered if anyone has a tried and tested way to heal them? In hot weather she has an anti UV rug and a face mask because she burns badly too. The patches aren't sunburn, just unexplained dermatitis that affects gipsy cobs on the pink skin/white hair parts of their body.

I just think anything wooly with pink skin is affected by these kinds of things really, worst of both worlds, pink skin in sensitive and wool traps everything no matter how much you brush/bath them. Our babies are majorly scrapping at the moment for some reason (caught fritz littlerally hanging off tim's neck this afternoon!) and just keeping the bald patches clean and dry etc they seem to be healing pretty quick. I know not quite the same though.

I give my gypsy girl aloe vera in her feed - never has any itchy, scaly problems anymore in feathers or anywhere.
