Dermodex mite (sp) any info??

Yep..some of the rescue dogs we have had in have had sarcoptic and demodectic mites/mange.....it's pretty easy to treat, If I remember rightly demodex lives in the hair folicle, both types of mites are treatable with ivermectin based products and ALUDEX which I can not reccomend highly enough...it is fab...it's like a smelly sheep dip that is sponged onto the body for a stipulated period.
Demotex lives on most dogs but it does not normally raise it's ugly head until the dogs immune system is attacked, and it's passed from mother to puppy, hence why most dogs carry it and most without a problem.
I recently had a rescue in with a very bad case of sarcoptic mites/mange...she came in with various injury and a broken leg, she got a secondary bacterial infection and had to go onto a course of anti b's too, then another puppy came positive after a nasty bout of gastroenteritis...these where the only 2 dogs that came out in pustules from the effects of the mites, no other dog... even though in close contact showed any symptoms.
I also use STRONGHOLD replacing it frequently on my dogs as opposed to normal flea treatment as this has the ivermectin ingredient in it...it's more of a preventitive than a cure, but it' really good, I used it along side the Aludex.

Has your dog had skin scrapes or blood tests yet?

the dog has had skin scrapes ect and has 'over infestation' and cannot use the sheep dip stuff as causes complications in the breed!!!

Ah I see ....I remember there being contraindications for certain breeds on the bottle....there is another wash use can use which is actaully meant to be more effective on Demodex...what treatment has your vet decided to use?
I would defiantely start with the Stronghold spot on...I found them really effective...out dogs cleared up in about 6 weeks to clear completely.
Our where really bad, one in particular...a young lurcher, she was covered in pustules and was itching herself to death, she has still not regained alot of the hair that dropped out.....but the treatments where very affective.

yep - sarcops is easy to treat with Stronghold. demodex is a nightmare and Stronghold doesn't have a license to treat it. Advocate does, but doesn't always work. Aludex is the best stuff, but cannot be used in some breeds. Advocate is probably worth a go as first option. It is a bugger to get rid of though. Demodex usually isn't especially itchy, whereas Sarcops is mega pruritic.

many thanx guys, the vets have used advocate stuff, and the next step is for her to go to the nearest institute where another type of wash can be used under serious supervison,,, obv if there is another way!!!! for the itching in the mean time is there a nice shampoo like praps tea tree thats gentle yet soothing??
