Describe your worst showjumping experience

Many moons ago age nine a 12.2 welsh pony, could jump 3 foot at home without thinking would it jump at shows would it heck! Always eliminated at fence 1. My mother used to spend a fortune in the clear round juming ring, my most treasured rosette is the first clear round one with that pony, still have it in a box under the bed.

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i toke my gelding (who was green at the time) to a local showjumping course, went in to start he galloped around and around over a jump (in gallop) came of. got back on galloping rearing ect..... this was all with a pelham in.

so then i toke him out went in to the warm up arena to ride him round, welll what a mistake!!!! he saw a young fit mare as i can only presume toke me to the arena fence whic i add was 5FOOT. and stopped dead so i asked him to move back when he decided to rock back on to his hind legs and jump this fench from a stand still which every one was watching (cringe) i hit the deck went uncontous.

then after all that the judge comes up to me to say welll he has a really nice jump on him dosen't he, well i could have died.

hope you feel better.

ohh and there was a really fit lad ther watching not impressed. and i got a sherbert stick for my bravery lololol
xx

Lol - well have to say I am feeling better already and these have made me smile.

I fell off a riding school pony, belonging to a 9 year old boy, in front of a load of mates, child's mother, the child himself and my boss. To make matter's worse, at the time, I was the little boy's riding instructor.

to be fair the horse had a bloody evil stop in her and I was only taking her round to see what she would do. She'd bucked her owner off in the warm up the show before.

But still, I don't think I ever quite lived that one down

Last time I went SJ my horse randomly bolted into one of the jumps in the warm up like a bullet out of a gun and ducked out at the last second. I flew over his shoulder, landed on my feet (one, then the other) and my shin snapped right up by the knee. Nasty break, nasty operation to screw it back together, and loooong time recovering.

So, if the worst happens and you do come off, try not to land on your feet would be my advice

I'm sure you will be fine!

oooh me me!!! I've got a good one...

Took my ex racer to her first combined training ! The dressage was abismal but decided to do the jumping anyway!

I forgot to put my martingale back on, she went galloping into the ring-managed to gain a modicum of control so pointed her at the first fence she jumped it but about 6' in the air...

I was left standing with both feet still in the stirrups (they both came off the saddle!) the wrong side of the jump! I have never been so embarrassed in all my life!!!!

Needless to say we went straight home!

My first SJ on my old horse, i fell off twice at a 2'3 jump- this horse was 16.3 and had evented to Novice.

My worst was getting eliminated in the 1'6'' at my first ever SJ show - on a 16.2hh who's jumped up to Newcomers

She refused the first fence as I was clinging on to her mouth for dear life. Jumped it second time. Same at the second fence. At this point I did relax a little and actually remembered to use my legs. We popped the next few OK, then the course turned back towards the exit of the ring where you had to jump a very skinny skinny, then a two stride double.

Well she baulked at the skinny but I was determined not to have another refusal so I kicked her on. Obviously not sure what to make of it she attempted to clear both the wings and the pole, leaping about four foot in the air. I screamed "WOOAAAHHHH!" at the top of my voice, lost my reins and my stirrups and she'd already locked on to the double. With all pressure on her mouth released and me sitting on her withers, she took the double as a bounce and headed full pelt for the exit.

We were half was across the showground when spotted her fieldmate and bounced over to say hello. As she slowed I unwrapped my arms from round her neck, got my butt back into the saddle and regained my reins and stirrups then proceeded to sit there shaking like a leaf for a good ten minutes afterwards.

Amazingly, we actually went back into the ring and won the 2 foot - where someone made an official complaint to the stewards about us being pot hunters. I laughed my head off!

lmao!!! My usually reliable schoolmaster put in a last minute stop at the 4th fence and I flew over his head and landed on my back. Just winded, but it has taken me almost 18 months to get my confidence back!!!!!!!!

Had been jumping 2'9 but then at my lowest was even refusing to go into ring to jump 2'3 (only loss of confidence jumping, everything else fine!). 2 horses later, one made me worse so sold her, one has been the bestest star, and I'm now back to 2'6 and hopefully will get to 2'9 by end of year! I'm early 40s now so I think my age has something to do with it - just couldn't get my head to accept it wasn't going to happen again, though it doesn't cross my mind now. Tried confidence workshop and hypno, nothing worked, just perseverance and practice in the end

my worst was and most cringworthy was when I was about 14 I was doing a working hunter class at bold heath, we had really bad rain and they moved everything indoors and into the sand schools. The large school was split into 2 back end was the WH fences and front was the lead rein class. As am jumping the course my horse seen the dividing fence and jumped out of WH ring into lead rein. I was so embarrased, I made my appoligies to lead rein judge then went back into WH ring and made my appolies to WH judge, her reply was your novice WH has just jumped a 4.5 fence, I dont really think he is a novice WH do you? I had the horse 4 weeks and he had no comp record so as far as I was concerned I had to test the water to see his capabilities.
As it happens when I bought my new mare I part exed him as he would only jump WH fences not SJ fences, the lady I part exed for new mare had sold him to who I bought him off and said he had hunted for years was an excellent hunter and was never a SJ as I had been told. This was in the days before you could look on the internet and find this info out.

My worst was at the Area PC show jumping in 2001. We'd been training hard all summer, and I was on the 'A' team - it was not long after I got Ellie and so far we'd been doing really well - a complete contrast to my pony days, when I was well known for being the 'one who always falls off'
blush.gif
Anyway, half the PC had come to watch us jump....including one lad who I fancied the pants off

It didnt start well for the team; one member forgot the course and jumped one fence backwards and another knocked up a score of 52 faults (how!?!?!?!) so it all rested on me. We went in, jumped the first two, and then stopped dead at the third fence, a big scary blue and white diamond jump. I went headfirst in slow motion over Ellie's head, exposing my fat backside for all to see....including the guy I fancied

And what was worse, I was wearing teddy-bear knickers (I was only 13, ok!!!) which clearly showed through my jods

It wasnt a good moment, and unfortunately it was captured on tape and played repeatedly for laughs at later PC camps
