i must not have asked the question properly. what i am asking is. does a barefoot trimmer consider deshoeing a horse before a trim to be something that he she does if required.
Still don't think you've asked it right. However I would be pretty upset if I got a barefoot trimmer out and they refused to remove the shoes and I also had to pay for a farrier
i dont quite understand the question either, but my barefoot trimmer (equine podiatrist) removed my ponies shoes for me and another horses before they trimmed their hooves! hope that helps,
dont really understand what a barefoot trimmer is. My farrier has removed shoes and measured her feet for hoof boot, which I get on Saturday (post office was closed this aft) so he knows I want her to go barefoot eventually and will trim her feet accordinly
I'm not really sure, but I would imagine they would expect to have to deshoe the horse on their very first visit. Unless they're only trained in trimming, rather than removing shoes. Probably best to phone one and check?
Jeanette, yes, I think that taking the shoes off before trimming would be something that a barefoot trimmer should be prepared to do. They should know how, and if they are reluctant it might be worth stepping back and checking on their level of training and experience. There are a few people popping up who are charging to trim based on a 1 week owner's course that is designed for maintenance of their own horse's feet, for example.
Does that answer your question?
You did ask the question correctly. But what the majority of us were saying was why not just use your farrier to trim your horse when his shoes are taken off???
That's what the vast majority of us do whose nags are barefoot.
Agree with AmyMay, ours are barefoot and our farrier trims their feet, that way you know that the person dealing with your horses feet knows what they are doing and are regulated by a proper regulatory body
lots be honest now.. barefoot trimmers have little or no training anyway and i'm sure most of them would not have a clue how to remove a shoe,
I have to say the only persons who will be removing, or trimming my horses feet will be registered farriers of DipWCF or RSS and above.. and hopefully, in the future, me.
