Hey, well for anybody who does not know the one horse i currently have on loan is being sold on so she is going in about a week. The other mare I have heidi she is 21 and i have her for 4 years, she is the best. But she was going as i had this new mare and the owner is going to be picking her up a week friday. But I have the option to keep her on!! I dont know what to do??? I love her so much and i do not want her to go i cant bare to lose her!!If she stays then I keep her and dont get another horse, or she goes and i get something younger!!
What would you do if it was you? I know its my descion but wonderd what people thought??

ummmmm.......well in the end it is up to you...but i personally would be inclined to sell her on....... but in your situation i may change my mind

it all depends on what you want to do and whether Heidi is capable of doing that for you still. At 21 she is certainly not over the hill and provided as she is healthy and not too arthritic should be capable of all the things she could do when she was younger.I have had many an older horse the oldest of which at 27 was still taking me round sponsored rides doing all the jumps like a youngster.Provided as you keep them going and remember to warm up and down a little more slowly than you would with the average 10 year old there is no reason whatsoever that you shouldn't be able to continue doing what you want to do.Heidi will tell you when she needs to slow down with her workload. We still have a 28 year old and 26 year old working in the school and although they no longer go hunting or cross country they have plenty to offer.

Well they are both on loan!! Well before I have maize the mare i have had for about 3 months I wanted something that was younger that could take hunting and on fun rides etc.But she is going and I have the option to keep the horse that has taught me so much!! She is very healthy, not very fit but very healthy. She suffers from colic aswell. I can definatley feel her age but she is still full of energy and life i was jumping her over 2'9 logs in the field the other day!
I dont know i am all in a muddle!!

Hey babes, not being horrid or anything but I think* it is spelt decision

TBH, if Heidi has a loving owner to go back too then I think it would be best for you to find something a little younger.

If you are looking to do more then you have to be realistic that Heidi may not have it in her to offer you that.

However, she is only 21 ( not sure what condition, etc) so I would think an extra year wouldn't hurt.
