DH has suggested that I should have a made to measure hunting coat for christmas. I think he may be the perfect husband ;).

So tell me, what would you incorporate into your perfect coat? Been looking at a friend's this afternoon, and she has replaced the bottom button with a hook and false button on top, as it was always coming off as she jumped on and off so much. Clever! It also has a waterproof membrane. What sort of pockets would you have and where? Storm cuffs? Any other clever ideas?

Also, there seem to be very few people round here who make them. Can anyone give me any recommendations? I'm in the north west.

Hubby had his tweed jacket M2M by Brocklehursts of Bakewell and it is lovely.

They are in North Derbyshire so perhaps a bit of a trek for you but you also see them at a lot of the big shows, burghley, badminton, and the game fairs. You could give them a call.

Hubby only needed an appointment for measuring up and discussing requirements and then another for collection and checking so you could just have a couple of days out in the Peak District!

Bernard Weatherill = Quality Cloth and Tailoring.

No-one can "design" a Hunt Coat!!

Hunt Coats have been doing the same job , looking exactly the same - for hundreds of years.

However, you can make minor alterations such as your friend's bottom button - which is not unusual.

well, yes you can, there are all sorts of little bits you could tweak to make it exactly how you want it! and unfortunately I don't think my budget runs to savile row...... thanks everyone for the recommendations, particularly brocklehursts, who I hadn't heard of before - not too far from us. corran, dh has had a couple of good suits made by a tailor in liverpool, and I am considering going to him, but he has never made a hunt coat, so I will have to be very clear and specific with him!
