Designer Dogs

Anyone who thinks AAD is bitchy ought to hang around the Doghouse on Mumsnet, such is its reputation that posters now deliberately bait the dog folk on there following the banning of a very prominent member. Every single dog thread devolves into mudslinging (and as swearing and even quite personal attacks are not moderated on there... :eek:)

And yes, they too have helped out owners and dogs in need but that fact seems to pass the trolls by.

I'm always stunned by the AIBU dog-related threads on mumsnet (as well as many of the other threads). Everything seems so normal until a group of self entitled, neurotic, delusional nut cases spring out of the woodwork to declare that actually, the entire world really does revolve around the perceived happiness of their little miracle.

Still, it's good for LOL's when you're on a break. :D

(Sorry for being off topic!)

I love sensible cross breeds (thinking mongrel terriers you get with working folk at home), cocker/springer crosses etc and I know accidents happen. I wouldn't expect a free dog but I wouldn't dream of paying more than £50 for a mongrel unless is was a working dog...even then I'm not sure I'd pay that much more.

Jack who is well bred cost me £175 due to a retained testicle. She just wanted a good home and to cover her costs. Quila I'll admit to paying £550 on but she's a good example of a rare breed and to be honest, was destined for the show ring like her mother had I not come recommended. She's got goodness knows how many breed/crufts champions in her lines and only a generation of close breeding (which with a small pool can't be helped).

What winds me up is the stupid names and the price tags.

@ostrich, as with anything, the viewer can take what they want from it. The bits I found useful and show have referenced to specifically were the bits were they show what some breeds used to look like in the past. As with most of these "truth about" programmes, they tend to over egg the pud :) I know exactly what you mean, but I still found a lot of it fascinating but also heart breaking.
On the subject of hybrid dogs, I found this in my trusty metro yesterday " CAVACHON... 16wks £350" urgh. Paid £50 for my trusty little mutt.

@murphysgirl, if you wanna see how much people are willing to pay for a dog, go have a look on preloved. I can GUARANTEE you will find an ad that goes like this;
"Teacup Chihuahua,
Beautiful rare colour. Kc reg, beautiful tiny girl. 5* home only £1500"

Toffee44, when our gun dog trainer accidentally produced a litter of "Springadors", no one in the gun dog training group wanted one - except for us! Now she's just over a year old and is proving to be a BRILLIANT little gun dog - so what if she's a MONGREL! Showing all the predigrees how it should be done!:D

I know 2 springadors, from different litters. One was taken on by my neighbours when her previous owners had given up on her at 6 months old, she is a gorgeous little dog but her hunting instinct is a nightmare, neighbours house is like Fort Knox! She looks just like a black lab with slightly shorter legs. Some other friends have also got one, for all the world looks like a black springer, he was the result of an accidental mating between 2 working dogs, and although he is quite full on he is proving a great and very trainable little dog.
My point is that someone could look at either of these dogs of the same "breed" and either decide they would never have one, or definitely want one, and yet there is no guarantee they would get the characteristics they are looking for.

the only cross that i would never ever want to see would be an american bulldog x collie. i know there are some out there... i met someone at a show whos ab got caught by a collie! :confused:

anyways, i think thats a recipe for disaster, going on my knowledge of both breeds!

im not against x breeds. if you are looking at both breeds and breeding to try and produce a certain imporvement for a purpose. i do not agree with x breeding dogs to produce asthetic qualities. and while i know this is partly why we have the breeds we do now, it does not mean it should be continued... i think we should know better now!
