Anyone got experience of the above? Horse had a check ligament injury treated with PRP, original injury perfectly healed, lump came up at injection site, got bigger and was removed, results came back suspicious of Desmond tumour? Apparently very unusual (my horse likes to do special things!)

A previous horse had a suspensory branch injury on the lateral aspect of her near fore and she had shockwave which did diddly squat. She was a candidate for PRP and so had that and was rehabbed slowly over a period of around 10 months from memory with a return to jumping which she did for a good 18 months - 2 years without issue.

She then had a terrible accident whilst being tied up outside her stable next to wheelbarrow and got her damaged leg stuck between the tyre and the frame, leg swelled, emergency vet called, box rested, iced like crazy etc. After she recovered from that she developed a strange hop which was only present on the right rein and vet said because outside fore pushing into circle was causing it - better the more collected she was from memory, if she ran on it showed up worse. Vet either xrayed or scanned (think it was xray) thought she had mud on her leg so brushed the leg and repeated and conclusion was that she had calcification attached near to the tendon sheath which was catching on the branch (or something very similar). Vet said he felt it was a mechanical lameness rather than a pain lameness and even when on bute it was still present.

We assumed it was due to the wheelbarrow accident but years later I read that PRP can cause calcification. Is that what you are referring to OP? I'm not sure if a desmoid tumour would get mixed up with calcification, not sure how similar they present??

Thanks for your reply. No calcification was mentioned in the report. I had it removed as it was getting bigger, he also has inflammation to the suspensory branch on medial side, think the lump may have been pressing on things so he was loading differently which caused the strain. He hasn’t been lame and original injury is looking good, hoping that with rest and the fact the lump is off it will now settle and hopefully not come back!
