Some of you may have seen my previous posts about the swollen eyeball then the £2500 worth of bills with still nothing concrete, diagnosis's include: atopic dog / parasite in the eye / lungworm.......Her eyeball has swollen again in the last 3 days, I can't handle keep going through this with her. She seems ok in herself at the moment. I am going to change the Vets so how do i transfer the claim stuff with the insurance. Any ideas on what this could be HELP! (Greek Rescue Dog came to UK May 08 I rehomed her Feb 09 and it has been 1 problem after the other including a mastectomy

Surely they would advice her to have her eye removed if its causing this many problems?
I feel so sorry for you and for the dog.
Sorry, I can't help about the insurance other than ringing them up?

No idea re insurance, mine aren't insured and no one in the land would insure B now

Who did you get her from? Can they tell you anything more about her background?

Like I said before, and especially bearing in mind she came from a different climate, and correct me if I am wrong was probably a street dog, she could be allergic to the most innocuous of things in the house and if you can't afford the big-ass allergy tests I would work on a process of elimination.

We only discovered B's trigger was tree pollen because when he went to kennels when we were on holiday, the only thing which was different was his location. Same food, same company, same kenneling, just that we live in the middle of forestry land and where they stayed had little or no trees.
He always comes back from kennels in full coat.

Our 'itchy and scratchy show' has started again in recent weeks, back to the shampooing and aloe vera application, I feel your pain!

What is she fed? When B was suffering food allergies his eyes often were bad, weeping and he would lose the hair around his eyelids.

Hi she is fed on Purina Omega Tasty with some tinned meat on the top purely to "liven it up'.

It is just 1 eye and it is swollen and red, today it is weeping a tiny bit.

She doesnt do any of the scratching and she has nothing wrong with her skin whatsoever so this kind of leads me to thinking its not the atopic thing but I appreciate there could be something she is allergic to.

So by process of elimination, what do you suggest I start with? I am desperate.

Hi C - Is Mark good with dogs tho or cats? Most vets have a strength and most at Farthings seem to be with cats but yes I will try them now.
(Ps Scrabble yes but so so busy no time at present sorry!!)

I have only got Cats to refer to really

.... he is very good at operations, I know that, but not really a help to you!

I can only go by what I have felt when I have dealt with him and he is a very pleasant, knowledgable, easy going man, who I have all the confidence in the world with, as my Sops would not have been with me for the extra 3/4 years if it was not for him .... albeit a Cat

OK - thoughts! Bear with me

Try feeding her something plain for a week or so? Like chicken, tuna, rice, pasta etc, (the raw feeders might be able to help advise better on this) and see if this helps.

If she is in the house - what sort of cleaning products do you use? Cut them out for a week and see if this makes a difference. Do you wear perfume? Try not to in her presence.

If she is in a carpeted area, maybe restrict her to the kitchen or a tiled/wood floor area for a few days and see if this prompts an improvement.
What kind of bed is she sleeping on? What toys does she have? Could these be changed or removed might there be something in there that is bothering her?

Are there plants/flowers in the house? Could they be put somewhere else? Could it be grass, if you have a lawn?

I doubt it is atopia if her skin isn't bothering her - like I said before, it is quite a distinctive smell and texture.

OK. Cleaning products I can forgo.
Carpets all through the house except for my tiny hall (where she stays when i am out of the house and at night - this is attached to carpeted stairs `:(
My kitchen is laminate but that links onto the dining area which again is carpeted. (I only live in a bog standard 2 up 2 down)
I have a concern it could be a fairly new carpet in the house now that you mention it

Change of feed - will do on Monday, 2 of my clients run a pet shop and I seek all their advice, they know so much having run the shop nearly 20 years.
Lawn - I now attach her to the twine lead on the wall so she only has access to the patio but do tend to let her have a run around in the morning so I will try not to (gotta be cruel to be kind)
No flowers etc in the house, I am not into all that!!
Bedding, she has her bed which is hoovered and anti bac'ed, she has her upstairs bed which is washed weekly and she has her duvet in the car (which admittedly is due a wash)
Oh crumbs, just thought, I have a horse? But she doesnt come to the yard so it would purely be a transfer of the hair / spores on the clothing?
I think I have got everything covered? Oh and perfume, no probs.

BUT am I barking up the wrong tree here (bad pun wasnt intended) cos we dont even know if its an allergy? I think its more likely to be the damn parasite behind the eye as suggested by the Royal College of Veterinary Institute but if so, shouldnt they have killed it?? We did Metacam, Panacur (kills worms) and Advocate (kills lung worms) and numerous antibiotics of course.
She is currently having "Viacutan" sprayed into her food every morning (thats for the possible atopy) and she had a cortisone injection.

Well I will stop there then as I know bugger all about parasites apart from the ones that are on me at the minute

and they didn't even come from my flipping pets.

Hopefully someone else can help with that, good luck!
