Desperate for Hay - Ely/Newmarket Area

Anyone? I've just been offered some down in Royston at £6.30 per bale! Can't afford to buy that though. How about haylage? Anyone know of any of that going locally for sale and not an extortionate price.

Who in Royston has any left? PM if you prefer. I used this guy this year twice, once when everyone had run out - March/Apr time and again as I was stocking up for winter. He does massive bales of hay and he also does the same in haylage, if you work out the equivalent, it is pretty much 2-2.5 a small bale http://www.kirkfarmers.co.uk/default.htm I would also imagine that the delivery would be good as we are near Royston and he only charged I think £25 delivery for a full load.

We get the work and livery hay from Rolly Fenwick (sp) but be warned we are going to have our livery hay put up to £6.50 for flat 10's, from £5 when we get to the new stuff. Round here it is getting very expensive - you could always do what happened at Tatts last year and go and help yourself (obviously joking, those naughty trainers got caught for that!).

I have had a few small hay bales from Chestnut Horse Feeds, good hay. Think they were about £5 & I think they came down a bit if you had a few more. I know they deliver over that way as a friend of mine has feed near newmarket. But I think they only deliver with feed orders?

Thanks, will look them up.

Rolly has always been expensive. Used to get it from him years ago. Talking of helping yourself at Tatts, with the amount of entry fees we're paying this year up there, we will certainly make sure we get our moneys worth.

What quantity are you looking for and I'll ask the guy I get mine from. He charges £35 per bale delivered I think - I collect mine. They are big square bales.

Would be looking at getting about 15 big bales every month - it does depend though on whether I actually ever get to sell my 4 youngsters, my boy goes out on loan, one of my ex-racers goes back into Newmarket as a lead horse, and then I could drop the number down a bit. PM me with the name if you can. Thanks.
