Sorry, re the bullet thing, that's my fault, I mentioned shooting early on and I do not know why, Burness at no time said that the dog was going to be shot, just PTS, nothing wrong with shooting if you know what you are doing and it is a considered decision but I referred to the dog getting shot, not the OP.

Fern has a new home now and her circumstance was nothing to do with the OP, she was just trying to help, I don't know why we are going in circles with this, hopefully lessons have been learned and the OP's outlaws will maybe make a more considered decision next time they are selecting a working dog, it is no failsafe but there are tests you can do, even with baby puppies, to detect certain levels of drive.
As I have said before, I have had a dog with a what sounds like a similar type of temperament and I know how hard these dogs can be to deal with, when nothing at all you do seems to make the poor critter happy
