Detachable neck or combo? (Sorry, I know winters months away!)

Thinking ahead to winter, I need a new turnout and I'm currently looking at the medium weight Weatherbeeta freestyles. However they are available in combo and 'detach-a-neck', which is the preference? I've always been under the impression detachable necks rub the main more, however some seem to suggest the opposite is true?

the new detach necks are fab, ive just started replacing any rug that needs binning with them. they don't blow up any more and ive found they don't rub either.

Detachable for me as gives more options. For example, if it's a wet and windy day, neck on during turnout and off when in stable. I know some just fold back the necks on combos when the horse is stabled but mine would probably trash it if it were loose.

I've also got a horse who's mane was pulled when I got him, I let go "native" last year because he was on box rest and am considering hogging this winter. With a detachable neck I can add and remove depending on amount of mane he has.

I like detachable as i can send the rug for cleaning and reproofing cheaply and do the neck cover easily at home, or in some cases minus the neck i can fir the whole rug in my machine and do it all myself- not a hope with a combo

Mine live out so my preference is combo; if it's cold/wet enough for a rug then they can have the neck too. I prefer a lesser fill in the neck though. Not sure about the new versions but in the past I always found detachable necks to rub.

Detachables have got much better these days, they usually have a neck that overlaps the rug so it doesnt rub, but I do find that some necks are quite short compared to the rugs so bear that in mind.

All neck covers rub my boy's mane out - I just see it as a fact of winter - and as charli_ says above some of the combo rugs have rather short necks so I am a fan of detachable neck covers.

I also like them because they give me much more versatility wrt rugging options.

I've got a fairly new Weatherbeeta detachable neck medium weight and really like it. They've improved the way it attaches so no gaps and like being able to take it off when it's dry weather never found it to rub either.

Detachable, as I don't normally use neck covers (my horses live out but all have full manes), but they make good 'spare parts' for fixing the rug if required.
