Which ligament (there are different ones for sesamoid)?
Is there any bone injury with the detachment?

TBH they are tricky ligaments, slow to heal and not a great prognosis.

One of my horses didn't detach one, but did injure one and even then the vet was pretty pessimistic for return to full competitive soundness. We did 3 months box rest, combined with shockwave therapy, and then turned away in field for 9 months before a gradual return to work and didn't have any further problems with the ligament.

What has your vet said?

I bought a racer who had detached a ligament from his sesamoid in a hind leg. He had plenty of rest (at least 6 months) and I returned him to fitness and it was never an issue. There was a bony feeling thickening at the sesamoid where it had stuck itself back together.

Good luck with yours.

Hi
(thanks Nat and cptrayes for ur replies.) ...lol...
was told which lig it was but have forgotten..will ask. I use pietro... TVE..
He's said to have at least 6 weeks box rest with tildren and maybe some laser treatment.
As long as he can go back to being a happy hacker, thats all he was bought for really..
Hope you had a lovely xmas and New Year!? x

I have a mare with a core lesion of the straight sesamoidean ligament. vets were very pessimistic. she had rest/ shockwave/ navilox. I bred a foal from her and plan to start her again slowly in the spring. The injury happened nearly 3 years ago. She now appears sound. She was competing Advanced medium level dressage. Im not expecting her to return to her former level but to get her going again would be good.
